Ok guys, (and Gals) sold the C4 and looking at C5s, What years should I avoid, meaning any year had problems to watch out for. Don't mind a little tinkering but getting to old to play a lot of games LOL. Looking for a nice ride and cruise, with maybe a burn out or two. thanks in advance.
I could have afforded alot newer but I purchased a 1998 1 owner vert with 25,000 miles on it a year ago. I wanted to spend less on the car so I could afford to mod it like crazy! Besides the dreaded column lock issue I have had no problems with the car!

General rule of thumb is get the newest one your budget will allow. All of the C5s had some similar problems (column lock on manuals especially, differential seal leakage, etc), but overall they are all pretty reliable. Some '01s (again mainly manual tranny cars) had oil consumption issues. Some of the '01s and up had more options standard than the '00 and earlier cars and the '01 and up had 350 hp compared to the 345 of the earlier cars.
Thanks for the replys so far. After living with my C4 and playing with it looking forward to the 5. Like anyone else trying to get the most car for the money. Doesn't really have to be an ultra low mileage car, I have found that cars that are driven often seem to have a lot of the bugs worked out.
