Much has been said on the forum about the extended warranty. I checked with Fitchner and due to the age/mileage of my car it does not qualify.
I am considering an extended waranty offered by my local Chevrolet dealer. It's thru Chrysler Corporation. My 2000 C-5 has 52,000 miles with an extended warranty now. The Chrysler warranty will be for an additional 50,000 miles/5 years for $2300. This is a "bumper to bumper" warranty (their words) with a $200 deductible, called "Max Care".
Any thoughts on this choice? I do not want to be witout a warranty.
There are many choices out there via the internet...but you do not know how good they are or if the will be in business next year. The Chrysler warranty is being recommended by the dealer I get my work done by.
I thought if a GM vehicle still had existing GM warranty left, even extended, that it could be extended again? I think the dealers make more money on the aftermarket warranty so that is one reason they push it. My local dealer doesn't even try to sell the GM extended warranty, they always push the aftermarket warranty first. Good luck either way!
I bought the Chrysler extended warranty from the Chevy dealer that i got my used '01 from. More coverage and better price. I haven't needed it yet but did some calling to my SoCal gm Dealers and didn't get a very warm reception when I said I needed some work done under an extended warranty written by Chrysler. All said they would except it (why not they'll get paid no matter what factory wrote it)but all of them said i may have a 3 or 4 day wait after the car is finished to make sure they got paid by chrysler, unless I wanted to pay the bill and then contact Chrysler warranty dept. I called a chrysler dealer and he said sure, if we can't fix it we will take it to the chevy dealer for you and then bring back after repairs. I have 43k on the car now and coverage is good for 5 more years or up to 90k miles bumper to bumper. So i guess I 'll find out. I bought the car from a GM/Chrysler dealer in Tenn. so of course he didn't have a problem with it but out here in San Diego/So Cal they don't put GM and Chrysler dealerships under the same roof.
let us know what you decide or hear!
i have warranty direct .and just picked my 02 vert up from the dealer today almost 1000k dollar repair done .dealer said they called them up got approval with no problems at all .so far so good .....be sure and get 0 deduct
GMPP does offer a "used car" warranty on older cars based on year and milage, but it is expensive. I would go with the Chrysler Max Care, it is honored at all Chrylser dealers and most GM dealers will accept it with pre-approval because they know they'll get paid. Also, there are an awful lot of combo GM/Chrysler dealers out there. By the way, the Max Care 5 year/50,000 miles with $200 deductible has a dealer cost of $2,000.00. Negotiate!
I read my chrysler warranty, It's the Max 5 year/ 50000 mile with a $100 deductible. Booklet that came with it and shows what it covers, about 5000 parts, my noisy rt. headlight motor is one of them. Pretty complete. dealer wanted $2350, i got it for $2100.
Whats a water pump on a C5 go for replaced at the dealer?

I have Warranty Direct too but you might want to check with them on coverage for a '00. They may not offer their most comprehensive package on a car that old. The one you mentioned doesn't sound too bad for that price.

Hi Bethlehem Bob,.,.,thanks for the info on the Chrysler extended warranty. My Chevy dealer said that my price of $2380 for the 5 yr ,50,000, $200 deductible, Max Care is "employee pricing". You indicated that the dealer cost for this package is $2000. How did you get the dealer cost for this? I need this info for negotiating. Sounds like I can get a better price with dealer cost info for leverage.
