For my future reference. I have 20k miles and am about to do a head and cam change. Should I change the fluids or wait ffor some more mileage. It seems to shift fine.

I used to live in Northridge...on Plummer Street when I went to CSUN.

Mine got changed for the first time a few months ago, it had about 96,000 miles on it, it was brownish red fluid but not too bad considering that there was so many miles on it, I had no grinding, issues or problems with the tranny just thought it was a good time to change it. This weekend I will probably be changing the plugs and wires, that were never changed before and the mileage is at 98,000 miles.

That's quite a few miles from where you are now. I live off of Tampa by the 118. Born and raised in the valley. How long ago were you at CSUN? I see you are a CPA, northridge is known for having a good program for that.

I would.

The stock tranny fluid is not synthetic. I think changing the stock tranny fluid to go to synthetic (whatever your favorite brand) is a good call as the tranny in the C5 can get very hot and conventional fluids will shear down over time. I think it is even more important to change the diff fluid early to get the initial break-in particulates out of the fluid. AMSOIL now recommends changing the stock fluid out at 5,000 miles. I changed my tranny and diff fluid at about 800 miles.

Thanks for the info Subdriver! I will look to see if there are any stickies or how-to's and get on it soon! I figured it couldn't hurt, but thought I'd ask first.

See my post #5 in this thread. That's the how-to. It's simple, and you get to bond with your car for a half hour.
