On the way back from getting car inspected today decided to blow it out a bit. Second gear at 4500 and floored it. No wheel spin but had to be close. Shift to third lots of spin and then back to normal speeds. These cars are bad. Anyway it was fun while it lasted. Anybody in basically stock Z get wheel spin at 4500 in second when you stab it? Just curious.

Yeah they'll light up in 2nd if the conditions are right in the summer especially from a 4500 punch. Below about 50 it should boil the tires off anywhere in 2nd. Have fun
Might want to think about squeezing the throttle just fast enough to manage best acceleration without spinning the tires. When they're spinning you're losing G-forces.

Ranger???..............where is the fun in that??
I run with traction contol off most all the time, but I love to cook the tires and slide around corners............I'm at like 380rwhp with Wide ovals about 2/3 gone and 2nd gear 4500 punch always gives me wheel spin...................I wish I could drive and watch at the same time... The other day I got on an on ramp swinin to the left then to the right all the way through 2nd gear and down the ramp maxing out 3rd and push the clutch in and oh hi there Mr. officer sir......he was too busy for me though I guess I just left the clutch in for a bit let the rpm's drop and coast down to about 70 by the time I passed by. That was a close one
It amazes me that my borlas are not heard that much coming at you..........just when you're behind me..
Thanks for the reply. I have followed your posts since becoming a member and I just want to say you have my respect for the way you are able to launch these cars and drive down the track. Just amazing what you have done. Also want to say that I am following your clutch protocol religiously and so far no problems. The orginal post was just for fun. I just can not stop grinning when I run that car hard.

I was in the comp dr. mode. I pretty sure with the tc and ah off I would get wheelspin. Not many cars on the road that pull like these do under those conditions, just a blast to drive.

Thanks for the kind words, got2hav1.
Staying after that clutch fluid will innoculate the car from pedal woes. Member Yaroslav in Ukraine reported yesterday he changes his reservoir fluid daily, and still has no pedal issues at 50 rwhp over stock despite very aggressive street driving.

Daily?
Ranger, I'm sorry, but that's a bit much. I do mine about once a month & seems ok so far.

Whatever it takes to keep the fluid clean is the morale of the story.
The Ukranian C6Z owner drives very aggressively and sees rapid color-change in the fluid. Being distant from the normal GM support chain, he doesn't take chances with his clutch.
I usually go by the color, unless I have an event coming up, which is fairly often. Probably every 2 to 4 weeks - just the upper res.
I have been using the gm stuff, but the new clutch/brake fluid is 2x the price & 1/2 the size (roughly).
Is there a less pricy substitute or should I bite the bullet & stick with the gm?
It is not available in qt/liter/gal sizes to my knowledge.
Small cans are often better because brake fluid absorbs water from the air. In my 02 C5Z I used Prestone DOT3 and changed it often. Worked fine for me. But I think any good brand of DOT3 would do as well.

I switched over to Prestone synthetic DOT4 for my '03 Z06...will that cause any problems???
Changed over just about two weeks ago, did 4 fluid swaps (pumping the clutch 15 times) until clear, then drove for about 5 miles with a few high rpm shifts and checked it after 3 days...the fluid wasn't bad, but not totally clear, so did another fluid swap (for a total of five) and it was totally clear and clean. I'll take it out for another drive today and do another fluid swap if not totally clear and clean.

I changed mine enough to go thru one bottle of the gm stuff. Pretty much stays clear now. Every month or so now I change it. I think its cheap insurance much cheaper than a new clutch .

I changed my brake fluid over to the Valvoline full synthetic (500 deg dry bp) a few months ago, seems good, I flush about every 3 months autox and b4/after a track day where hvy brake use gets temps WAY UP.
Before I was using the Ford High Perf. DOT3 (also quite good)
Do you think I could use the Valvoline full synthetic for clutch also & not have so many different bottles on the shelf?

Will it mix ok with the gm spec. fluid?
I can't say I liked the Valvoline in my 02Z clutch hydraulics. Tried it and found it turned black almost immediately. Your results might be different.
