Default C5 Front Tires

After 18K miles I have steering wheel vibration above 75MPH. The tread is still great. Anyone else have this problem with factory tires?

Also, what run flat replacements are the best? I am considering Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP. What is the report card on these tires?

Try having the wheels rebalanced. The wear can be uneven enough that it causes the wobble.

18k miles is good.
You obviously didn't know that tires do not wear even all the way around.
Just get you down to the tire bay and get you a good ballance.
As a rule of thumb, on a smooth road, if you can't read your watch at 70 mph, while holding the steering wheel then it's time for a ballance.
Through the life of my tires, I will have them ballanced at installation, then, another twice until there is no legal tread left.

I recommend you find a shop that can do a "road force" balance with Hunter equipment (or equivalent). Discount Tire and many of the other major chains can usually do it for you.

Maybe you've lost a weight?

C5's have a built in camber for better cornering. i'm not sure what the degree is but they ALL do scallop on the first two inches of the inside edges. I thought it was just mine but recently when we had a picnic i checked out all the Vettes there AND THEY ALL HAD SCALLOPING ON THE INSIDE EDGES!! EVEN THE Z06'S!!! I'm going to have my fronts taken off the rims and mounted on the opposite sides so that the fronts will then be on the smoother part of the tire, with the scalloped part on the outside. they should be switched every 6000 miles or so to prevent scalloping. This i learned after paying $634.00 for new fronts.

I recently installed a set of Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP's. Great tires. If I had to do it over again, I would still get the Michelin's.

Sounds like a balance problem to me.

Hi: This works 200%. Had the same proble went to several places, finally my local Lexus dealer did all 4 tires with the Hunter equiptment for $80. The car was almost shaking apart at any speed above 65.They did a superb job.By the way , my Goodyear "run craps" were fairly new and Goodyear replaced thed them for a minimal charge due to bad inner wear. A good example of their hidden warranty!!! Dr.Jeff
