Manual CAGS????
Well, couldn't think of what else to call this post
So, all of us MN6 guys almost immediately disable the CAGS. But, CAGS was intended to help with gas mileage. Don't know if it does or not, but that's another discussion.
Anyway, my CAGS is disabled, and with gas prices rising, I was wondering if manually shifting from 1st - 4th, or even 2nd - 5th in city city driving would have any measurable improvement on gas mileage?
I don't do it to specifically save gas, but I'll occasionally shift 1st to 3rd, then to 5th. Shifting twice to get to 5th, seems easier on the clutch/tranny than shifting 4 times. It's not like the C5 is starving for torque or anything.
The GM Engineers tailored this to meet the EPA test. I don't think it would save much gas in real life.
Besides if you are at over 25% throttle it is inactivated. It is dangerous, I had it do it to me on a left hand turn from a stoplight, car bogged down so much I also got hit from behind.
No CAGS for me, I bought a Manual so I could shift for myself, the CAGS Bypass was my first (and BEST) mod!
With the warm weather Ive been using my vette more going to work. I have to admit with the NY rush hour traffic I find my self shifting 1st to 3rd. The car handles this shift easily and since I'am going nowhere fast it makes the commute more enjoyable. I haven't calculated the gas mileage, but it should be better as the engine revs are lower.
