OK here's the deal. I have found a '01 ZO6, Torch Red, Black Interior, immaculate, 4,900 miles on the clock. The color scheme is exactly what I want. The tires are almost new. In short, the guy babied the car. Reportedly trades up to the newest Vette every year.Dealership listed it at $43.9, but will go to $42.5. I was going to offer $42.0.I get the impression they gave the guy $38 for the car. Sound about right? 30 mos and 26K left on the factory warranty.
Question 1: Is $42 a good deal in this market?
Question 2: Drove the car, which is very nice and fast. But not THAT much faster than my '00 Coupe. Now, my Mallett 3.73 is still sitting in my garage, uninstalled. Can I put this in the Z? Or would that shorten the gears too much? I'd like some input from track hounds on the pros/cons of such gearing as well.
Have you seriously considered buying an '02 Z06, not to mention taking advantage of 0% interest (even if you have the green set aside), if you haven't you ought to!:smash:
Model years are changed for a reason ya know.:D
Good luck in your buying decision comrade.

Ps: Oh, if you're destine for the '01 ... a deal south of 40K is the ticket.
Thats too much for an '01, and believe me, as an '01 owner I wish that were not the case. That's about what i paid for mine brand new. Get an '02. There have been dozens of guys paying to get out of the 01's into an '02.
Buy out of state! Those CA dealers have got brass ones!
If you wait for an '03, you may as well wait for the '04.
I had this same dilema .. Although the dealer I was working with wanted $48k for the 01 .. It was a no brainer for me to go pick up a brand new 02 Z for $50k with 0% fiancing ..
FYI: I paid $40K with 2800 miles, an extended warranty (5yr/50K), and the mods I would have done anyway. Of course, I got it from an individual, not a dealer. You should be able to get a better deal from an individual since they have less (no) overhead.
Edit - in L.A., you're going to pay more period. If you want to buy there, then $42K probably isn't that bad a price.
Thanks Ted, but I have actually inked a deal with the local dealer for $40K, plus they will extend the warranty to the end of the lease (39 months) at no additional charge. The warranty is a very important issue for me, given the number of "problems" on my '00 Coupe. Also, I would prefer a red ZO6, which theirs is.
sounds like a good deal......i did not know you where looking for a lease.....my z06 has a 5yr 75,000 mile gm warranty on it......if you know of anyone looking to buy send them my way......its clean and comes with $4,000 in add on's.
enjoy your new ride.
Personally, I would drive it a while before you decide to drop the lower gear in - our '01 Z06 goes thru 1st gear so fast it's almost useless... Of course, with the 3.73, you could always hire out on the weekends to pull stumps or something! :D
Launch the restrictive factory airbox-Donaldson if you want to return to stock easily and forget about ever thinking your 00 Coupe is not that much different.
My friends 01 Z06 walks away from my 01 MN6 Coupe (put down 328/343 on the dyno) at any speed now. We used to be equal when I had the Donaldson and he didn't. The Z06 loves the extra air.
