Default CAM Question

What all do you have to replace if you get a new cam, $450 for all that power seems like it is to good to be true. Can you just buy the cam or do you need a kit like from LG. What is the install like for that?

Some of these will depend on how large of cam you go with, but the bare essentials are:

Cam
Valvespring kit
Hardened pushrods
Timing cover gasket
Front seal
Water pump gaskets
Coolant

Highly recommended items to also change/upgrade, "while you're there":

Timing chain
Oil pump
Underdrive pulley
Belts
Spark plugs

Then (if you don't do it yourself), add installation and tuning. This where it gets expensive, as there is a lot of labor involved.

A typical installed/tuned cam package price from a tuner is in the $2200-$2500 ballpark.

Probably a stupid question but do you need an engine lift?

If you are gonna do it, its best to do it right the first time rather than risk breaking more expensive parts down the road. BTW, if you need more info on prices and packages, just send me a pm, I work as a sales rep for ECS, located in Cream Ridge, New Jersey, they do some incredible work and have some very competitive pricing when it comes to cam only packages, including tuning.

The cam doesn't cost that much but with additional parts and labor it easily goes for more than $2K. If you're gonna do it, consider doing a full heads/cam package and get it all done in one shot.
