Default 1/8mi. drag racing

Last night I went to the track. Its an 1/8 of a mile track. I have a 2002 coupe with an afe stage2 cai and a predator tune, my friend ran his 2002 camaro z28 with a hypertech tune, headers and true dual. Even when my reaction time was better he would get me by 1/2 to 1 car length. I would start catching up towards the end and he never really pulled away. my mph was right there too. does that sound right? i know he was fast but now i really want my exhaust already!

p.s. my time was 8.7sec @ 86mph
camaro was 8.4sec @ 87mph

yea let us know what each of your 60' times were, I just pulled one of my time slips from last year, my car only has a vararam for performance upgrades, my 60' was 1.960 1/8 was 8.335 @ 86.94 finished the 1/4 @ 12.89 @ 108.12. that 60' time is a HUGE factor in dropping times, he may beating you by 1 or 2 tenths at the 60' mark, if thats the case make that up and you should have him

App 1/4th of the dragstrips around the country are 1/8th mile. Also, when we run the big dollar bracket races they are almost always 1/8th mile even if the track is a 1/4 mile track. You get good in the 1/8th and the 1/4 is a breeze.

I can see where the 1/8th can give good practice; but the car isn't fully measured unless it can be shifted through the gears.

insurance on a 1/8 mile track is much lower than a 1/4 strip, also easier on cars and accidents as speeds go up.

The only close dragstrip to us is an 1/8th, so we have no choice. My friends race it every week. They have grown to like it, the door cars can run pretty good with the rails. My friends Monza runs a 5.50 on the 1/8th

I hear ya; but that's the point. Your friends Camaro (assuming the mods you listed are all of the mods the car has):

8.4sec @ 87mph

would look equal to this C5's times:

.

until the Camaro would be required to go the rest of the way:

then it would lose - and by a sizeable margin. I guess there's no harm in being an 1/8 mile fan; as long as people aren't naive about how their car would perform in a real drag race.
