I'm sure this has been asked before so sorry couldn't find using search. I'm getting ready to install a cat back system and was wondering if it was worth spending the extra for an x-pipe. Also, does it matter if manufacturers are different. Thanks
I think that the manufacturer does indeed matter. Take a look at the center section on some x-pipes. On some all they do is cut a section out on the sides of both pipes, bend them together and then weld the sides of the two pipes together. There would be no true crossflow on these.........
What you want is a true "X" section that is going to flow across from side to side for better scavenging. IMHO, Bassani makes the best center section and has the best cross-flow as a result. Bassani's center section is a custom made piece and with my Corsa Indy's sounds great..........nice even exhaust pulses at idle ---- no more putt! putt! putt! motorboat idle sound.........

The only advantage I see to doing it if you are not doing headers is that it will smooth out the sound of the cat back system. In other words you will elliminate the popping sound you may get otherwise some people hate this sound I myself don,t mind it at all .

I was getting a lot of resonance and popping with my cat back system and when I put the Bassani x-pipe on, that all disappeared. Well worth the extra money.
I realize what I am going to suggest would require your to possible work on the exhaust twice but if it were me I would install the cat back system and evaluate the sound on your car first before deciding if you want the x-pipe. Some people like the sound of the new exhaust with the stock H-pipe. If you do decide to go with a x-pipe I agree that the true X style that Bassani and Magna offer is the way to go.
If you decide to go with Bassani x pipe I have one for sale. It only has about 200 miles on it. Decided to buy LG headers and it came with x-pipe so I'm selling the Bassani and its like new. Send me PM if you want to discuss price.
