A Young Mans Dream
A Young mans dream
When I was a young man every summer we would take a long car ride from NY to FL for our annual vacation in the warm sunshine. This one trip was always very special to me, as we headed south down the interstate I laid in my favorite traveling position in the back window of the dinosaur like Pontiac Catalina staring back at the highway and other cars. This was before we all worried about child safety seats and really no one wore seat belts they where always tucked down in the seats of the big machines and air conditioning in cars was a big ticket option.
Well as I gazed back at the traffic I saw this one car closing in on us a little faster than the rest a few seconds later I could tell it was really flying. Now the old man was not a lead foot but he was usually good for 10 MPH over the posted speed limit on the interstate. As the car got closer I was so impressed with the look and the sound of the car as it passed by us at a speed that made it seem like we were parked on the interstate. Even the old man grinned as the car roared by us although he knew it was wrong to advocate this kind of behavior.
It was many years later that I realized that car was a mid sixties silver Corvette coupe with a black stinger on the hood and the sound of what was a 427 cubic inch motor with side exhaust. I will never forget that day and that sound as long as I live.
And so began my affair with America’s favorite sports car, I bought my first Corvette when I was 21 years old a 1972 white coupe then later a 1985 white coupe and then a 1986 black coupe.
A few years later my first C5 a 1997 arctic white coupe. Today I drive a 2001 quicksilver coupe with some little black stripes on the hood and can only hope that one day my car will make a good impression on someone that will last a lifetime and spark an interest in these great cars.
Sincerely,
Angelo Pousa

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

The Corvette has been a "Dream Machine" for over 50 years. It was the car that many aspired to own - when one was seen we uttered the words,"One of these days....."
Nice write up and thanks for sharing.
