Default Hoisting the car

Alright so, I want to switch my wheels out. I'm taking it to a local shop, and they have a hoist that has 4 arms that come out being behind the front tires and infront of the rear tires. Is this ok for lifting up the z to get the tires off? I read the manual, and they have a totally different approach for the key lifting areas.

Just wanting to know if this should be ok, or will I risk breaking/cracking something underneath? Is there a certain area on the side where it should be positioned?

Its fine as long as you have jacking pucks or the lift has the ones that extend upwards to put some space inbetween the lift and your rocker panels.

Look at it this way. If he breaks parts of the fiber, money can fix it. Besides, what else are you going to do with your money???

Hi dkny_stylez -

Lots of information about proper lifting of a C5 has been posted here -

The car is assembled at Bowling Green riding on the four spots that the lift you mention will use - so you will not harm the car by lifting at those points - even though there are other jacking locations specified in the owners manual.

The key thing is to prevent damage to the rocker panels by contacting the painted panels with the lifting device (that is where jacking or lifting pucks come into play.

Here is a picture of my Z in my garage on the lift as you describe.

There is a distinction between jacking and lifting points. The 4 spots on the frame are the lifting points. Hoist pads are inserted in the 4 shipping slots to provide clearance between the hoist and plastic body parts which curve under the frame. If the pads are used the hoist (lift) should not damage the rocker or front fender panels.

Look at it this way - your reply is worse than worthless Fixing the rockers is a major PIA; why invite problems when you can avoid them with a little knowledge and forethought?

I have a scissor lift in my garage that I lift the Vette with all the time. I have a set of the lifting pucks, put them in place, use the 4 arms and lift the car up. Works perfectly. Should not be a problem, but ask them how they will set the lift arms before you let them do it, just to be sure.
