Somewhat off topic...dealership techs please answer...
Does anyone know the recommended repair for an electrical connector where the locking tab has been broken off?
Please state the manufacturer you work for and the suggested repair.
I am leaving this kind of vague to see what everyone has to say.
Let me just say that I know how I would want it fixed but the tech that worked on my truck had other ideas. (BTW...Insurance paid job if that makes any difference.)
If it is a splice connector (meaning a wire to wire), I insert a small zip tie between the wires on each end and cinch the assembly together. Replace the tie the next time you remove. If it's an end joining a sensor, you have no choice, but to cut back the wires 3" or as much as you can, (don't be afraid to unwrap the harness) and splice a new plug end to the harness. Carefully solder the wire connections, and shrink wrap them, then using electrical tape wrap the harness. NEVER use butt splices or other types of mechanical crimp connectors, you are asking for trouble. Good luck,
John
BTW, I'm not a Tech, but I did spend 8 years PT as a trainer in GM's ASEP tech training program as an instructor, and I did sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
