Default HRE Wheels

Has anyone else had problems with HRE wheels on C-5 or C-6 Corvette as I have 543 wheels on my 99 and just noticed both rears had cracks completely through 2 spokes on each rear wheel. I contacted HRE and they want all 4 wheels returned for inspection and repair which was great but this could have been a real problem on my trip to Bloomington.

After 5 or 6 sets of HRE's I've never had an issue.

Explanation from you on where the cracks are (I.e., at the top or bottom or middle of the spokes). Pictures would assist.

Did you purchase these new (from amnufacture)?

Hard driving (I.e., autocross)?

Default Hre

Purchased new in 99 and never raced, drive fast but not crazy and the crack is completely through center of two spokes and shearing from another. Not sure exactly what we will do but they are going back Fed X Monday and I will have further discussions with HRE

Default HRE Wheels

I posted a note a month ago about my HRE 543 rear whells that both had cracked spokes, one had one spoke cracked and the other had two cracked. I contacted HRE directly and they advised to return all 4 wheels to local dealer Big 3 Performance in Waukesha Wisconsin for inspection and return to HRE. I was informed by HRE 10 days later to select any whell in the 540 group and they would ship directly to dealer for installation, now that's World Class customer service!! I had purchased the wheels directly from HRE in 1998 and they stood behind the product so if your looking for World Class Wheels and World Class customer service my choice would be HRE. My contact was Vince Borja @ 760-597-2006 or vincentb@hrewheels.com

A year ago, I had a crack on one of my 547s. I was at a car show in NY when it was discovered, and i live in PA. Several folks looked at it and had the opinion that i would be OK driving home on it as long as I took it easy. I got home all right, but my stomach was in knots the whole was home.

I contacted HRE, and got basically the same deal - they asked me to send in all 4 wheels for inspection, at their expense. I did this, and in about 10 days I received a call from them and they told me that they would replace verything on all 4 wheels, but would use the original barrels, which they had checked for runout, and they tested fine. I was pretty happy with their service, but brand new complete wheels would have been even better. They told me that the cracks are the result of an improper spoke design, and the replacement spokes are much beefier than the originals.

I went with 549's this time with Charcoal Grey centers and High Polished outers and so pretty happy. I loved the 543's but hated keeping them looking perfect all the time so thought I would try this combination, my car is Magnetic Red and will post pics when installed. I just got stuck in hail storm and car needs to be totally repainted (2 weeks) and insurance covering $4700.00 invoice!

I highly recommend the level of customer service at HRE. Honestly, there are many wheels companies that endeavor to emulate HRE (and we will not mention names here), AND, they do not even come close to HRE's efforts regarding staff cooperation and customer satisfaction. Glad to hear that your issues were resolved in your favor.

No problems with my 547's.

Good to hear that their replacement service is good should I need it though.

Haven't really heard of any problems with HRE wheels. While it is a major inconvenience to you, good to hear HRE is willing to check out your wheels.

Wow, that's great news and HRE did the right thing. BTW, do you happen to have any pictures of the damaged wheels?
