Hi - I had my car keyed on the front bumper/hood Now, I took it into a body shop recommended by All State as one of their preferred shops. They quoted me only 2-3 days ou time. Now it's 8 days! Also when asked about how they will paint the hood I was told they will paint the hood and bumper and blend anything else needed (like the lights). I just spoke with them today and now - it's just the right hand side of the bumper/hood?
They said they will just paint the right side and not the left....When I asked if I will be able to tell the difference ( my car is 5 years old ) he said no..I find this very hard to believe that the right side will look like new and the left faded paint with clear coat over it.
Any suggestions or insight I"m missing would be greatly appreciated. Like should I go to another shop as they have my car. Also, I was quoted $1900 and now today it's up to $2600ish
You won't be able to tell...all the repaired panels will be cleared and look the same. He was saying they will just lay color over the repaired area and blend out. Being black, they shouldn't have to blend to adjacent panels. The adjacent panels might need polishing, but the color will be the same. The "fading" you are referring to is scratches, swirl marks, other imperfections in the clear.
I would make sure the entire front end is polished out so that it all has a consistant look. When paint work is done the trick is to paint it so you cannot see where the color started and stopped. If you can, it is not done correctly, especially on a high end car.
Remember, you don't care what it cost as you were directed to this shop and the insurance company must have confidence in them. You just owe the deductible.
If you feel the finish and repair has not put you back where you were before this loss then go back.
Check their warranty also, a good shop should be at least 10 years or even as long as you own the car on the paint.
I had the front fascia on my 97 repaired when it was torn on one side. They patched the tear and repainted that side of the bumper and the only way I could tell where the new paint was located was due to the lack of markings where bug strikes had dulled the finish. The other side of the bumper still had them. A couple of track days and the new side had its share of marks.
Sounds like the one side will be better looking than the other. I would rather have the front look the same across the whole hood. I call tomorrow and see what my options are.
