Default question about header install

Hey guys,

I am going to try and install some longtube headers from LG in the near future. I want to do the install myself. How high in the air do I need to get the car? Do I need a lift to do it, or can I do it with jack stands in my garage? Also, any tips for jacking up the car? Will I need anything more specialized than jackstands?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I did it from under a lift but I don't think I needed more than 16-18''. It more for comfort and ease. Where are you located at? It sounds like you need to have a mod party maybe at someones house with a lift.

I'm in the Cleveland area. My big reason for installing everything myself (the headers are the main part of all this) is to get a little quality time with my brother and father. I'd much rather do it myself than have a shop do it if at all possible.

I did mine on jackstands. However, the only way I could get the driver's side in was from the bottom and it required jacking the car up pretty high to do it. I won't even tell you how I jacked it that high because it was far from being safe!!! For that reason alone I'd recommend a lift. While it's possible on jackstands it's not real comfortable on the body and not real safe either. Good luck!

Thats the same write up I used when I installed LG long tubes on my 03 Z . I went with the hi flo cats too. I was really surprised that this system wasn't much louder than stock. About a month after install, I realized that I problebly should have put anti seize on all the slip joints so I pulled it all apart again and at the same time took the hi flo's off and put the by pass pipe in. Now it sounds a bit better and picked up a few more horses. They have been on for allmost 4 yrs and no codes and no problems. You wont have any problems if you install using the method in that fine write up.

Can both headers be installed from the bottom? Also, There is mention of it not throwing codes. Are the rear 02's unplugged or did you install simulators or have them turned off during a tune? I have a set sitting in my garage that I'll install next weekend.

drivers side goes through the bottom and passengers side goes through the top, u'll need 02 sims if u won't be getting a tune soon
