Default High Mileage

I am about to get my first vette, a 98 with ~100k miles, I was just wondering what is the highest number of miles you have seen on a c5 that is in good running order?

Do a search. There are some with over 300k miles and still running strong.

LS1's will last just about as long as you do if you take care of them.

My 98 vert has 197K and I am just starting to replace some smaller items that are bound to wear out (power steering pump).

My 1998 Coupe has 104,000+ miles and the only non-maintenance item I replaced was the oil pressure sensor.

You and I are going to have to trade stories one of these days! Just got my camera back from repair and when I hit the magic 300K number in the next couple of months, will take a picture and post it.
What others may not realize, if we didn't take care of our cars, we sure wouldn't get these miles out of them that you and I both have.
You are cool with me

I think it has everything to do with how well the car was maintained.

I'd rather buy a 120k example with excellent records than a 60k example that was beaten and not maintained properly.

From everything I have read, they are a very well made vehicle, but like any well made vehicle it is up to the owner to take proper care of it.

Well made engine wise. Electrically.... maybe not so much. There are a lot of known issues that can go wrong. Dont get me wrong, the computer system is outstanding, but that is just more things that can malfunction.

I'm not at 300K yet, 292K at the moment. Will be there in a couple of months or less. I carpool these days, so the mileage increases slowed down. It goes to work, every other day now and work is 60 miles one-way. It use to be 91 miles one-way. What can I say...
Your's with 75K on it, its still new! Take care of it, it will take care of you.

Hi guys this is my first post! I have been reading as much as I can and learning alot. I'm glad I found this thread. I have been looking around to see my options on what kind of Vette (97+) to get within a certain price frame. I was almost leaning to get an older Vette (92-96)with fewer miles and a cheaper price. So I could avoid the problems with a Vette with higher miles.

dgrant What kind of thing must we realize? What kind of things did you do to take care of your car and get to 292k?

There have been a number of members here that have C5s with well over 100K on them. As with any vehicle, how well it has been maintained plays a big factor in the longevity of the engine.

I've been here for a little while now and so many times reading that people are dumping their cars for new ones so they don't have to deal with keeping them in repair. Two people where I live have Corvettes that aren't in such good shape. One is a bright red C-3 with flashy wheels, but the driver's door and window stripping is badly damaged showing a major hole into the car itself. Another person has a Purple C-4 sitting outside without a cover. Seat is torn, paint is coming off, cobwebs under it and getting so dirty, you can't see the purple. These kind of people will be the first to complain that their cars didn't hold up.
The realize portion is that "Nothing lasts forever". In my case, when I see things happen, I fix it then or order whatever I need to order, then fix it when it when the parts come in. Keep up on the simple things like oil changes(cheapest stuff you can't put in the car and costs the least with the greatest benefits), tire pressures change a lot during the year, wheel balance and wheel alignments. No sense in letting things go and again in my case, I can't afford to replace tires all the time, therefore if I suspect the alignment is off, it gets done right away.
I've already seen most of the things that everyone else is seeing these days on their C-5's. My MM6 tranny was the largest problem and I finally spent the big bucks to replace it last year. 3rd clutch, 2nd water pump, oil pressure sender relocated, lifters went bad, headlamp control module, seat rocking, one headlight motor gear and a few other usual things. The only mod to it is a Halltech Stinger Induction.
