Just got my new Z06 several days ago. After having a CL bypass in my ' 99 FRC ,the sound of the CL motor locking/unlocking now send shivers down my back.No bypass is presently available for the '02 models.Has anybody had a problem yet?
3800 miles and all is good. Haven't had an incident with it. Although it took me a while to figure out what that noise was every time the column locked.

Re: Column Lock on '02 Z06 (Richy)
Does anyone know if the locking mechanism connector is the same on the 2002 as it was on previous years? If it is I will install the bypass unit I took out of the '98 Coupe we traded in on this new Z06.
I haven't heard of an '02 owner try the bypass on their car yet. My hunch is that the factory installed the recall components on the '02 cars during assembly. If so, then the bypass won't work due to differences in the wiring harness and relay.
Trying the bypass on an '02 with the recall (or even recalled at the factory) won't damage anything. If I can get a volunteer, I'll send you a bypass to try out.
If you DID GET the recall (or if the factory installed it) on your 6spd, you can unplug the actual lock motor from under the dash. This is the 4pin connector with purple/orange/black/green wires in it. The bypass relay in the recall will still simulate the column lock, but the actual lock will be disconnected.

I'm getting my EB Z06 in a couple more weeks, if you dont have a volunteer by then i would be willing to do it. And also i dont understand your second paragraph. Are you saying on the 02's 6spd that disconnecting the actual lock motor wont matter and that the relay will still simulate the lock working? if so, no codes will be thrown??
Thanks AV8TR, no takers yet so please email me when you get your new ride.
Your paraphrase of what I tried to say is right-on! Imagine if you will, the lock motor and bypass relay connected in a parallel circuit. With the lock disconnected, the relay still lets the BCM think everything is cool. That makes the intended setup somewhat dangerous, because the BCM could think all is well, but the steering wheel COULD actually be locked solid.
But again, we're speculating that this setup is even in the new models.
