Default Thinking Twice

Well, as some of you know i put a thread up a day or so ago posting the for sale of the vette. I am quite new to this community, and it really has grown on me.

So, today i went out and decided to test drive a few cars, for two reasons: lower payment, and better gas mileage. So i test drove a Acura TL, it was nice, roomy, and decently priced, but just didn't feel like me. Next i drove a mazda speed 6 which has the 4 cylinder turbo engine. Its stock 0-60 is estimated from 5.8 - 6.1/s. So i figured i would give it all it was worth. So i was getting on the on ramp and gave it all she had, it pulled strong from 0-40 mph already having to shift to second and getting it to about 4k rpm. When this rpm and mph hits it feels like the car just dies, and i mean it took forever to get from 40-60-80. I felt like i could run faster than the car. So much for critics.. The car also felt to be poorly made (in my eyes). I was going to test a Rx-8 for the heck of it since it is supposed to have almost identical track times but the sales person advised me to stay away from them b/c he sees more of them coming back in for repairs then going out as a sale.. So now im at a crossroads, whether to bare the high payments as i approach college graduation and stay broke for the next year or try and resolve this by parting ways and finding a new buddy until i can clearly afford the payments of the vette.

This is the link to the car in the F/S section, it also has a few pics and my sadness.

Sounds like you were not financially able to be a Vette owner at this time in your life. Maybe later.

Take your time before you decide! If I had a vette at your age I would have taken a second job to keep it! Mow 15 yards a week this summer when you get off work, etc., Payments made for the year ! Trust me on this one. I do 40+ a week and it covers my tax bill in the middle 5 digits of tax liablility on the rest of my income. Made over 575.00 today in six hours on a landscape job on the side.

P.S. IM AN AMERICAN DOING JOBS AMERICANS WON"T DO!

P.S.S. The point is,,,, how bad do you want,,,,fill in the blank!

My 2 cents

When I was your age. Just got married wife and I both working
Went and looked at the "NEW" split window 63 Vette. Thought it was the most beautiful car I had ever seen. Couldn't afford $95 a month
payments. So, bought a 63 Impala SS 409. After a couple kids. It took me 20 years to
buy that midyear Corvette finally. If I had to do it over. I'd have got another job to get that Vette and you got it already. If you really
like it,do whatever to keep it. Sh+t happens and the next thing you know
it's 2027 and everybody's driving corn burning junk and Vettes are
200K...............
But whatever you decide "Good Luck"

I totally agree with you guys, now im at the dilemma where i really wanna keep the car, but i want the "dream car" exactly how i would if i had any choice.. And its reasonable going from a 01 silver coupe to a black/blue 02 Z06... and trying to keep payments from going up.
I just hate having a vette and putting miles on it since its my daily driver.. it should be sitting in my garage waiting for me to come home with my work car. sigh.. find me a 02 z06 for 26k and decent miles and i would work 40+ while doing fulltime college..

Before you buy ANYTHING, talk to various service mgrs (Chevy, Ford, Acura, etc). Ask them what to avoid. Which cars have which problems?

You might find yourself buying grandma's Century and saving a ton of $ over the next few years. Just an example. Save $$; put them in special account for x years. Buy low mileage car of your dreams--cash.

Just a thought.

I friend of mine who makes $8 per hour found a 67 Mustang that needed a ton of work. I told him he should put 25 cents in a big water jug everyday. In 68 years, he would have saved enough money to buy the car and put it in cherry condition. Sorry about that.

I hope I did not embarass him.

Deciding my Wants or Needs always helps me to make my choice with a side order of Live for Today, cause Tomorrow might not come. If you can afford the Vette, keep it. If its a Daily Drive and the miles are going to accumulate, then the smiles should accumulate equally. I bought mine to use for the Weekends only. For the last 6 months my Harley has been sitting in the garage. 2 totally different rides but right now, this one is making me smile. Next is Memories. Some day when we're all pushing up daisies, you'll be able to tell you kids that their Daddy really enjoyed College and one of the reasons was he owned a nice Corvette that he drove to school everyday. And Last, but always First, get that Good Education. If you can obtain good grades while owning the Vette, go for it. If you can't, then focus on the Grades first, you can always buy the Vette of your Dreams when you land that nice Exec Postion.
