Default OE C6 Wheels on C5?

Well after staring at 1000s of pics, I think I like the look of the OE C6 polished wheels enough to put them on my FRC. I ran a keyword search and 4xxx threads hit (none of the first 20 revealed what I wanted to know - Will the OE C6 rims fit my C5?

The +79 rear offset isn't ideal..........but will work...........I had C6's on my FRC, I ran a 1/2" spacer on the rear.

Did you have to change your wheel studs. Doesn't appear to be much extra thread on the stock wheel studs with the C5 wheels mounted.

fronts bolt right on, rear need at least a 1/4 inch spacer. Not recommended. You can do it, but you're shifting stress to the studs, and being a vette with so much power on those drive wheels you're just making it even worse. You're also more likely to get a wobble from spacers generally speaking, although this may not be the case with C5's. I just about did it too, but where I live spacers are actually illegal altogether, for safety reasons, and insurance won't cover you if they cause an accident. That's what I know about them, maybe somebody can add more info or correct me.

When I was thinking of using OEM C6 wheels I had bought (and kept them, ya never know) 1" adapters as 1" is the thinnest adapter made. And always wondered if this would work as I wouldn't use a spacer, but would use a hub centric adapter. Just never got the wheel set.

you would be the first I've heard that didn't experience any rubbing, but I have read of people noticing it only after some time, maybe it's still early. How many miles have you put on them so far?

Thanks everyone for the input. It almost looks like a definite maybe???
The fronts are good and the rears may have clearance issues.

Do you think it might work to take a 1" adapter and mill off ~.500? Where did you purchase the adapter?

Unless you want 18's and 19's, I say go with original OE size in an aftermarket chrome version. The bling factor is incredible. I've had more compliments on the wheels than the whole darn car! Of course that's been from "ricers" and such. You know they're into "whips" like crazy. REAL vette people compliment the entire car.

The whole subject of whether the stock C6 rims will fit on a C5 has gotten really confusing. Everyone agrees that the front C6 rims will fit. However, there is disagreement about the rear wheels. Some were able to mount the rear wheels without spacers or adapters while others needed them in order to prevent rubbing the inside wheel wells.

Since I have an extra set of C5 and C6 rims, I decided to make some measurements for comparison. The distance form the inside hub mounting surface to the outside back of the rim is 7 3/4 inches for the C5 versus 8 1/2 inches for the C6. This means that the C6 rim will set back in the wheel well a full 3/4 inches further than the C5. This makes for a rather tight fit.

Measuring from the inside mounting surface to outside face of the rim I found the distance for the C5 is 2 5/8 inches versus 2 3/8 inches for the C6. This a 1/4 inch difference. Thus, it would appear that a 1 inch adapter should place the outer face of the C6 wheel at about the same position, with respect to the wheel well, as the stock C5 wheel.

I thought that this was interesting.

I just did MOD this last week. Sure...you can mount the rear C6 OEM wheel on the rear of the C5, but my research has revealed that they will rub once in a while. I know a forum member that had already done the MOD himself. He used 1/4" spacers in the rear. No other change of lugs, nuts, etc. He's had this setup for quite some time. Based on his experience, I did the same last week. The rears will even go over the hub. Plenty of thread engagement, pretty much the whole lug nut. I used McGard splined nuts.
