What is your oil consumption, and have you had rings replaced?.......
Two separate issues, and questions........
I would like this for ammunition for/at a later date........
Seems some of fellow brethern, are STILL using excessive amounts of oil.....AFTER the supposed FIX.
Please respond either on forum, or e mail me directly....
The oil mileage on our depends on how we drive it. We took it easy the first couple of thousand miles and it used 'only' one quart, It used another quart in the next 1500 miles, but we were driving it harder. I wouldn't say we were flogging it, and there were no track days, but we were using more revs.
I'm really not going to let this level of consumption bother me. The car is fun and runs great. My motto is: Just add oil and enjoy.
I am seeing pretty high consumption too. I talked with my Dad about this and he said it wasn't right and I should take the car in under warranty. He was very adamant about this point. I'll proabalby do it around Thanksgiving or Christmas. Of course taking the car onto a track probably accellerates the problem.
Oh yeah he is an Engineer at GM so he knowas a few things about cars. He said it was most likely not oil coming in through the rings but through the valve train, though he wasn't sure since he doesn't work on the Vette (I can't say what he is working on but its sounds like a pretty lame car, and one GM couldn't get right anyhow).
My oil consumption is getting better with mileage. At first it was 1 qt/1000 miles. Then it went to 1qt/1500 miles. I haven't had to a quart in the last 2000 miles. I did not have my rings replaced and won't. Even 1 qt/1000 miles is livable.
4000 miles and finally down 1 quart. I drained the Mobile 1 at 500 miles and put in 10 w 30. Please keep in mind however, I take mine to the drag strip and run the hell out of it.
I just changed my oil and plan on doing so every 3,000 miles, so I guess I won't have any problems.
13,000+ miles on the car and have used a qt every 1100-1850 miles depending on driving habits and outside temp. No plans as of now to get new rings. GM probably wouldn't accept it anyway.
I would appreciate any member's help that continue to have oil problems after the new rings were installed. I have over 2,000 miles on my new rings & have used two quarts of oil so far. GM is refusing to allow my service manager to tear-apart the engine & I have requested a hearing with the Calif. BBB. I had 9,900 miles when the new rings were installed.
Thanks,

Have you guys thought about this?
I just got my engine rebuilt from scratch and at the same time had it converted to an LT4. My engine builder has built over 1,000 race motors and told me to break the car in with conventional oil. For at least 2,000 miles. He said change it after the first 500 miles, then put conventional back in for 1,500. He said the rings will never properly seat if using synthetic from the beginning. I know all LS-1's and LS-6's come from the factory with synthetic. I have a LS-1 buddy take his car to the dealer NUMEROUS times to supposedly have it fixed, but it didn't help. After he did an oil change and put conventional in there for a few thousand miles, it disappeared. You would think GM would know this. http://www.marvb3.com/MarvsWS6.html
I got my car used with 1990 miles. now, after driving the **** out of it for 400 miles, no noticable oil loss. Even if there is some, i'm giving it till 5000 miles to even be concerned.
Re: FOR ALL ' 01 OWNERS........??? (speedy-gonzalez)
Ours is a late-production '01. We used about 1.5 qts on the 2500-mile trip home from Karl's place in Memphis. That was pushing pretty hard most of the way: avg speed almost 80 for the time we were actually driving (on a one-week trip). Car now has 7000 miles, and has used one (or two? can't remember) since. In the last two months, prior to having it changed last week, almost nada.
