Default tire and wheel question

Is there a problem going from a stock wagon wheel on a 98 to a 01-04 z06 wheel? Will the stock tires on a 98 fit the extra width of the z06 wheels? Thanks

no problem with the wheels.

the tires will fit, but the sidewalls will be stretched. The tire will look narrow and your wheels will be the widest part and more exposed to curb rash than previously...
I took a pic of a Vert that did this at a car show... it is particularly noticeable on the rear wheels...

- not the best size for the Z06 rims. Better to buy appropriately sized new and sell your old tires IMO. Good luck.

I am going through this same problem. Zo6 rear run a 35 diam. tire. Stock C5 is a 40 . I want to keep the same diameter for the speed sensor. I want to run Goodyear F1 GS D3. The only rear that the have is the 275-40-18. Goodyear claims this tire can go up to an 11 inch rim. rear Zo6 is 10.5 Front is a different ballgame. 245-45-17 will only fit max. 8.5 width. Zo6 is 9.5. So am putting 275-40-17 on the front wich will fit 9.00-11.0 inch rim. This will also give me the 1.0 differential for the speed sensors. Hope that I made the right choice.

I'm not sure you fully understand tire sizing; try TireRack's website for a good tutorial. But in any event you can get the GS D3 in a 295/35-18 size for your Z06 rear wheel; 275/40-17 is the right choice for a Z06 front.

Yes. I understand tire sizing. One chart states changing from 275/40/18 to 295/35/18 states when your speedometer 65, your going 63 mph. Also I read a few months ago about tracktion controll. It stats that there should be 1.1 inch difference in height between the back and the front tires. This is not achived by running a 35 tire. Zo6 cars do not have this problem. Anyone running 295/35/18 with traction controll having a problem?

There have been many posts on this subject in various sections of the forum. In a nutshell:

You can put Z06 sized rims and tires on any C5 vette without any problems.

The requirement to have a tire size difference (height wise) between the front and rear tires is a myth. What you want is for the rears to be equal to or taller than the front tires. The TC system senses the difference in how fast the rear tires are spinning versus the fronts. If the rears are spinning more than 5% faster TC kicks in.

There are plenty of vettes that do auto-x and roadracing that run front and rear tires of equal height without problems.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Independent1

I really want the Goodyear F1 DS G3's but they are hard as hard to find as hen teeth! Luckily I found the fronts yesterday in 275/40R17!! Good thing as the cords were showing.

Backs look OK....for now. Stock for the rear is 295/35ZR18 but I can't find any. Tire Rack has them in 285/35ZR18. It looks like the specs below that they are very close and as mentioned above the diameter is a hair larger even with the 285 in the back and the 275's up front, and the fronts will spin a hair quicker than the rears. Am I missing something here? It seems like a well balanced set up.

Here is a comparison of stock verses sizes that are available.......they are very, very close. Should I worry about smaller rears with the larger fronts.
I have a track day at mid Ohio the end of July and would like to have them all installed before hand, if I can do it safely.
