Default Opinions wanted...

Ok, I need some outside influence here.

I am 22, and about to purchase my first house. I currently have a 03z06 that I love, but lately have the urge to move onto something else a bit more practical. I was planning on getting a big truck in addition to the vette, but with this house thing that isn’t going to work. (Nice homes in Cali = no 50k truck, at least not for me, not now)

So, the main cars that I have my eyes on are 05+ CTS-V, M3 ,M5

I own my z outright, so I wont really be saving any money here, maybe just some lost sales tax as they seem to be priced around the same point. I cant imagine that the gas mileage is much different (could be wrong), and the idea of a 4 door, corvette powered car is cool to me. The M3 is nice inside, and has the backseats, and the M5 is pretty darn nice too (older body).

Am I nuts? Does anybody have any one of these?

HELP?!?!

if your in Cali = no snow, so you can have a powerful RWD all year long.
its payed off = smart to keep it
gas = vette gets better than any BMW or CTS-V.

i say keep it

Does it have to be a $50k truck? If your Corvette is your only vehicle, then I would highly recommend getting another one for daily pounding, but that doesn't mean you need to blow $50k on it. I'd say keep the Vette and get yourself a more sensible truck, like a used F150 or Silverado or something along those lines.

Well, I would prefer not to but another car *in addition* to the vette right now. For the first year of home ownership, I want to feel out the bills and costs associated before jumping into another financial obligation. I have had z06's for DD's for the last few years, and you really cant beat the mileage, etc. I love my vette, but just trying to make sense and / or justify it.

I was in the same situation you are now a few years ago (but I am alot older ) I found a used Olds Alero with 75k on the clock for 4k. Yea it's not an M5 or Cts-V, but I knew if I parted with my Vette I would regret it. It's a great little beater.
Most of us on here are going to tell you to keep the vette (obviously).

Wow, you must be big balla if you can buy a house in SoCal. Unless of course, you're doing the ARMS or interest only. If you are, don't do it.

I would just get a 10k truck,or less, for now and see how it goes in a year or so when you get a feel for the cost of home ownership. Keep the Z06.

Sounds like you are making a run for some added practicality. Did you check the cost to insure any of the other cars you are considering, compared to what you are now paying? That might also give you a bit of information on which to chew.

Buying a house is a very smart thing to do, generally speaking. I did so as a young single guy and it was the smartest thing I have done, financially. My bride and I were able to move up to nicer and nicer properties as appreciation increased the values. Friends who held off purchasing didn't do as well in the personal real estate arena. Just make sure you know what you are purchasing, where to purchase and when.

You may be better served to do so and drive your Corvette a little longer.

True if in northern NY (because the ton of rust on it does not cost anything).

In Calif, $4k won't buy a front bumper. In fact, $4k will not buy you a truck anywhere unless it has 300k miles on it.

Either that, or one of us is smoking something.

This is true. Plus, I am a Real Estate Professional and I am not (couldnt) drive a 4k truck to my office.

The corvette is payed for. Screw it, make that your daily driver for a while, while feeling out your new bills. Mine is DD for now, until i fix my beater that someone smashed up a bit. The thing is i hate being seen in a 99 cavalier after being in a vette all the time. OK, getting off topic, out.

HI MATEY
Nothing like your own home.be aware, there like vettes you will want to spend money on it to get it how you want.
if you can get the right bucks for it,not a problem .think of it this way
they could be cheaper in future?
when i sell a car,i say to myself, could i now go out and buy that car again for what i just got for it.
also if you have a break from z`s,it may be a really good feeling to go back to them,i e renew the enthusiasum.sometimes you have to actually do the thing to then understand yourself.
hey is your car the yellow one ,with bpp non pop up lights.??

Just sold a 2001 M5 and got a 99 C5. I work for a BMW dealer and bought the 01 M5 two years ago. Did full exhaust, coilovers and software. Great car, fast enough and just a very well built machine.

Wife got pregnant and I get a free company car (BMW) so wifey says since you only drive the M5 once a week and it was pid for, IT MUST GO!!! We need to save for our baby to come.

Reluctantly, I agreed (anyone married will know why I agreed ) sold the M5 and took half the money and bought my 99 C5.

With that said, I love the C5. My best friend has the same 2001 M5 with full exhaust, software, intake and we raced (on track of course) and not only did I beat him but I started to leave him. My C5 has Corsa cat back and a Vararam. We were both surprised and I was happy as hell that my C5 was faster than the M5. A lot is the weight, the M5 is HEAVY!!!! Almost 4,000 lbs.

The M5 is a great car and you will not find better build, fit and finish than any M car but I do not see how you will save much money as theyare not cheap.

My $.02.
