Default Found the reason for 230* temps

I just bought a 97, I have had it two weeks and I had worries because when stuck in traffic the fans didnt seem very effecient and I would hover jump to 230 and SLOWLY come back down. So as part of my inspection of the vehicle since I just got it was to jack it up and check brakes thoroughly and stuff. While under there I checked the front of the radiator for debris.....Boy did I find some.
The radiator was fuzzier then my head....I'm bald. I used compressed air cans to reverse flow the radiator to loosen up the hairs and rocks. I used a stiff nylon brush and brushed vertically and gently as to not fold over the fins. I removed alot of stuff, needs some more work. I'm working on getting an air compressor to get some real air flow.
Here is a pick of what I removed so far.

You guys can check out pics of the car here

You could sell that baggie in some parts of town.

Sweet Vette. Congrats and welcome to the family!

Vette's are notorious for grass etc inbetween the radiator and A/C condensor. I have found cigarette packs, Mcdonalds cups, misc wrappers etc in mine.

I clean mine out every oil change, it makes it easier cleaning it every so often than once a year.

Nice ride!!

Yeah...it's amazing how low that radiator is. It's like a vacuum cleaner for road debris.

You might want to invest in a screen to save that from happening. I shopped around, they're 49.99 to 100.00 depending who you buy from. They've helped out on our C5's David

The C5's seem to be a virtual vacuum cleaner, it will pick up just about anything on the road and lodge it in the radiator or an unscreened Vararam.

I found a big piece of newspaper in mine, along with the grass and leaves. It does run quite a bit cooler now. Check it every couple of months now to keep it clean.

So... does your car run cooler now that you cleaned your radiator? What are the temps now?

Car is still on jacks, bolting the tires on today and putting it back on the ground. It wont be on the road til tomorrow. So we will see if it actually did improve things or not.

Thanks for the compliments, cant wait to start getting serious about modding it up.
