I have the good fortune to be shipping my 04 Z06 to Lingenfelter for a na 427 engine transplant, complete w/ long tubes. I'm thrilled, of course, but faced with a decision. Should I, must I, get a new clutch? My stock clutch has 13,000 very easy miles on it and is trouble free. The new engine will be putting out a minimum of 530+/530 at the crank. I am a staid and older fella who doesn't plan to race except for the occasional times when I run up against an absolutely overbearing Porsche or Beemer or tarted-up rice rocket that won't leave well enough alone.
Lingenfelter offers an Exedy single disk clutch assembly with aluminum flywheel as an option, but I fear that will be a considerably more aggressive set-up for my daily driver. I really like the easy-going take-up and feel of the stock clutch. Cost is not the primary issue, since at this point I'm already spending a good bit and don't want to be penny-wise and pound-foolish. My big concern is getting a set-up that takes away from the sheer pleasure and ease of driving the car.
Please give me your opinion--I appreciate the expertise advice of others.
Well your going from a clutch that was designed to hold 405hp to puting 530+ to it. It wont last long with all that hp. The LS7 clutch is a good one to look into if you dont race at all. It's heavy but will hold the extra power and wont be a pain to daily drive with. Either way you need a new clutch that will hold the extra power.

I agree with Bret01Z06 that you need a clutch that's compatible with the new power. But I'd suggest avoiding the LS7 clutch. Got one and don't like it.
I'd suggest explaining your requirement for well-mannered streetability to LPE and ask for clutch alternatives with pro/con fleshed out. LPE has been through the process with many buyers like yourself and has earned their trust and admiration.
I only needed about two runs to redline after doing my H/C mods, to need a new clutch. Only 10k pretty easy miles on the stocker, and 475 RWHP. I don't recommend the Exedy clutch, or the LS7 at your new level. Lots of guys reporting problems with both at even lower levels than you'll have. I'm getting a Textralia clutch, and hoping for the best. Good luck, that should be a hell of a ride.
Only going off of what I have HEARD, the Textralia is turning out to be an excellent clutch. It is supposed to have great street manners, with a stock-like pedal feel, yet enough grip for higher HP regularly raced cars. For the amount of effort and labor that it takes to change out the clutch, it is $1,000 well spent (approx. $).
This is probably what I am going to use for my 430+RWHP Z06.

I have heard good things about the Exedy clutch but most refered to the twin disk..............have you any take on it?
The textrila seems to be gaining in popularity............I may have to pay it a bit more attention............like the thought of "like stock pedal feel".
I have the Exedy dual disc setup and HATE it! It is not street friendly!
My Textrailia arrived Friday - Zgrip.
The Exedy would be a great setup IF the car wasn't driven much on the street. It is either on or off with no slipage - too little gas, it stalls - too much the wheels spin ( there is no sweet spot) and forget getting stopped on a hill. Pedal pressure is aboput 15 % more than stock - which really isn't too bad. There is alot of clutch chatter. The clutch has approximately 1200 miles on it. Hope this helps.
