Default More z16 questions?

I went to look at an 04' ce z16 today. I was wanting some possible unbiased opinions. Unfortunately the car is at a local dealer. The car has only 2,600 miles on it. No wheel rash, orig. tires, no/very minimal chips on the front bumper cover. Minimal interior wear, undercarriage is VERY clean. Original battery. I did notice some slight rash on the bottom plastic "chin spoiler". The dealer has no documentation of the c.e. certificates or window sticker. Can this be obtained? I ran the vin and it car 1184. I also noticed the 4 small dash gauges are in white?? I thought they would have been black??? the car appears to be dead stock other than that. The dealer is asking $38,800??? Also,, the carfax was okay,, however my local dealer wouldn't run the vin for a service history/paint work etc. They said they can only divulge to the original owner??? I thought that was b.s. Any opinions and answers would be greatly appreciated,, Thanks Matt.

Sounds like bs to me about the vin. I'm sure ther are ways you can run it without them, just copy it down. Well the price ASSUMING that the car was never in any accidents is not horrible. I'm pretty sure I have seem low mile Z16's sell on the forum for around 35k but I'm not sure if the milage was as low as 2k!! That thing's a baby sooooo considering the car will still have factory warrenty I'd say talk them down to 36k if possible and if everything else checks out consider the purchase. The c5Z's are great cars and can be modded into beasts Also, 2004's have the better shocks and you don't have to worry about any oil burning issues or a few other things that plauged earlier models. Good luck!!

This may NOT be true.....if it was an early build you may be out of warranty in the 3 year period! My Z16 was one of the last ones built and it's Factory warranty expires in October...so just don't assume it has the factory 3/36 warranty.

Fill out your profile and you may get more answers to your questions. Also the price is toatally depends on where you live (supply and demand).

Well it is true,, i am almost positive that the warranty is up? It is car 1184 of 2025. Should i shy away from the deal? even if the service report through gm is okay? p.s. I need to work on my profile,, i just thought i would own a vette first so i can have some detailed info to entail in my profile.

With those low miles, the price doesn't seem too far out of the ballpark. I picked mine up for $37 w/14k on the clock, about this time last year.

If the car is that clean and all stock I would jump on it. Depending on your past high-performance car experience, the Z16's ride is a bit rough for those not knowing what to expect. The car is a driver's car.. it does well on long trips, but, your **** will feel it if it's more than three or four hours.

it really is the end and grand finale of C5 evolution .. and it feels like it

The dealer is full of B.S. on the history; ask him what he’s hiding? Is it still under warranty or is it GM certified so you can buy the GM extended warranty?
As far as price goes it’s in the ball park in my area as I paid $42k for mine last year with 3000 miles and an extended warranty.
The Z16 is an attention getter and will steal the show from other Vettes.
I get the same made in USA thumbs up when driving it as I do when I’m riding my Electraglide. Even the homeless people like it.
The only negatives I have ever got are from lower middle class men who don’t know where they are going to get their next trailer payment from. Hey it’s not my fault they got seven kids, no job and a eighth grade education.

BS on the service hist. I never had a problem getting one, hiding something? Copy down vin & get it somewhere else.

White gauges? None on my z16, someone modded those. Not my taste, but some like them. I think it'll look mismatched with some black, some white.

I would bet if you catch them at month end they'll easily chop 2-3k off. You need to be willing to walk away to play that kind of ball though.

They all bottom the spoiler, no big deal. Don't sweat it.

My most important deal make/break would be if it qualifies for gmpp. Make them throw it in 5yr / 40k mi. Starts when you buy it.

Okay i need to clarify. The car is actually at a lotus dealer, not a gm dealer. I took it upon myself to run the vin at my local gm dealer who had nothing to do with the deal. They said they cannot give out any info unless i was the original owner. However my friend who owns a bodyshop was able to get gm service history using the vin. All it was ever in for was a recall on the front/rear lca bolt and washer?? Is anyone familiar with this recall??? Did the z 16's come with some type of official documentation other than the window sticker??? This car has none,, i was told that i "MIGHT" be able to get this through gm???

You can get the build sheet and sticker from the Corvette Museum.
You can also get other info from the z16 website (www.z16.org)
I just bought #1950 in April for alittle bit less and I got the extended GMPP (5yr 50k), LoJack and a built-in radar dectector. It had 2700 miles on it.
It is weird that so many of these low mileage z16's are for sale.
I have put about 5k miles on it in 2 months.....I love it. Runs great and I have not had a problem.
Good luck!!!

Just window stickers, you can get replicas, not a BD. Many if not all had the lca recall, again not to worry there. I am on my 2nd Vette (LT4 & Z16) and would not own one w/out gmpp. So the miles & in service date are crucial. If it does not qualify, that would lower what I would pay considerably.

GL.

I am actually just on the east side. I haven't began to haggle as of yet on price.

On moday I will get you a phone # to get the inservice date or if you have the vin# just call lou fuz right there at mid rivers mall drive..............they are like almost right next to the Lotus dealer........any way ask for the service dept, tell them you are wanting to know the in-service date and they will tell you...I've never had them tell me NO!!
If in service date is in sept then it still qualifies................you should be able to get them to come down on price just a bit........maybe tell them you'll pay their price if they get the extended cvg added on. This way they can do so at their cost and add mark up to make it sound like they are reaching your goal of coming down more than they really are.

The build date has nothing to do with warranty.
The "in service" date is the one to go by.
I didn't buy my Z16 until April '05 (you read correctly). It was brand new, with me being the first owner.
My factory warranty extends to April 2008. I have since added GMPP for 5 years.
