Default clunking sound

I really need your help, I'm getting a clunking sound when I pull out of my garage when I turn hard in a either direction. I removed the rims and tires and had the car on jack stands. Then I used my jack and raised each control arm up and down and no clunking sound. I lubricated all bushing and still no luck. A friend of my suggests maybe a motor mound arm is cracked. I check the arms that hold the motor mounts this morning and I do see a crack on top of the right one. But I really can't tell it might be a casting mark from when it was forged. I did another check and I started the car and had my wife rev the engine and I did not see any movement of the bracket. Any other suggestions how to check this of do you think there is another problem? Any help please.

Thanks in Advance.
Gary

TTT for you...
Have you had any luck finding the source of your clunking noise?
Maybe if you posted more information about where the sound is coming from. Sounds to me like you believe it to be coming from the front end.
I'd suggest the following:
Jack up one front wheel
Grab the tire at the top and bottom, try to rock it.
Then do the same after grabbing the tire from the front and back of the tire. Maybe you have a ball joint, or wheel bearing going out?

Do the same with the rear wheels. Maybe the noise is coming from the rear wheels?

Another possibility would be the rear diff. If you have serviced the rear recently (or maybe it needs serviced) the limited slip may be binding. Ours did before our servicing of the rear, and it really sounded like a thump thump coming from the front end. That's a quick fix if it takes care of the problem.

Good luck finding the source. Please post up if you find the problem.

this might sound stupid but check your battery. after I changed the battery, I had it loosen up and it was clunking around in the battery bay every time I turned in either direction. I thought it was suspension, too. see if it's loose.

Thanks for the reply. But I can't find the location. My wife was with me when she hear the clunk and she said maybe the front right side of the car. I thought I felt it under the drivers side. Then we both thought we hear it in the rear. Last winter I upgraded my suspension. I added Z06 shocks, front swaybar and metal endlinks. When I took the car out after doing this upgrade I did not get any noise. The car has not been lower. I don't know what to do but take the car to the dealer and paid the $110.00 per hour to find the problem. Also, one other thing I had a front end aliment done.

Thanks,
Gary

Let me ask a question for clarification. Does the sound occur when you turn the wheel while stopped, or just while driving?
Try driving in a smooth tight circle in a flat parking lot. Does it make the sound then?
That's when our 'clunked' almost like a wheel bearing was shot. Felt like I was driving over a broom stick 2-3 times per tight circle. Turned out to be the rear end. Changed to Amsoil SVG and it's been PERFECT since. I guess the clutch packs in the limited slip were grabbing.

Place on rack and retighten everything.

I had the clunking sound from the rear passenger side after a Z06 suspension upgrade and metal endlinks done.

Took it back to get everything retightened and no more clunking sound.

I have a high apron on my garage. When I'm pulling out of the garage (forward) and turn the wheel I hear the noise at that moment the car is uneven coming out of my garage. As I'm driving no noise unless I turn on corners. No noise at all when the vehicle is driving on a smooth surface. I'm getting nothing like what you describe.

Thanks,
Gary

okay, what about just pulling the front sway bar completely and driving around the block to see if you've got any noise. if you've just done the endlinks, it's got to be something with the bar.

Last night I jacked the car up and removed the front tires. I check the end links and one on the drivers side was loose. I only turned the hex nut about a quarter turn. I finishing checking the shocks, swaybar, ball joints on both sides. I will test drive the car later today to see if that took care of the problem. If that does not work I will take your suggestion and disconnect the swaybar from the endlinks. Thanks to everyone that has given me suggestions.
