Default rev limiter ????

anyone know what rpm the rev limiter maxes out at? i thought it was at 6000. and also what does the car do if you over rev? i tryed a burnout and seemed like around 5200 or 5500 rpm the car makes a weird sound like a loud clicking is that normal?

It tops out around 6,300 and then it sounds like you've got a really bad miss as it cuts off the power.

The non Z-06 has a limit of 6k Z-06 is 6.5K. Clicking after a burnout? I don't know what that could be.

no, do not try a burnout with trac control on. the best burnouts are done in second gear by the way.

C5 rev limit is 6200
C5 Z06 is 6500.

Mine is set at 7200 or until my rod bearings inform me otherwise

No, you can't do a burnout with traction control on. I won't name names, but it has already been tried with a high-hp car.

No, you can't do a burnout with traction control on if it is working properly. There is nothing in the transmission that would pop it out of gear. You must not have had it fully in the gear. If you hold the button down for 10sec. it will put it in competitive driving mode and the ABS and Active Handeling will still work.

No dont shift. Start the burn out in second gear. For a street tire I always thought first gear burnouts get the job done.

FWIW - Any tuner can reset rev limiter to any RPM desired. It's controlled by the PCM. I have a stroked & forged 382 built by Katech, and the rev limiter is set at 6,800 RPM.

When you hit the rev limiter it makes a very unique sound - Sounds like you're suddenly running on 3 cylinders.

I've got a '98. I can turn off the traction control, but holding it down for 10 seconds does nothing. Is this feature for later models only?
And I assume when you say start out in second gear you're refering to a M6....

The traction control feature senses, for lack of a better term; wheel spin. When it compares it to the front wheels and sees a big difference then it pulses the brakes to stabilize or bring the rotational speed under control, hence the name.

Holding the traction control button down for 10 seconds will put the car into Competitive Driving Mode. This turns off the traction control but the active handling feature will remain active.

Smoke-um if you can...
