I wentto purchase an 04 Z06 corvette yesturday and I was really looking closely everywhere and I saw that the hex bolts that hold the fenders on looked as though they had been removed and reinstalled. ( They are black bolts as you guys and gals know, but they were shiny silver around the edges where the hex bit installs.) I have never seen fender bolts on an "unwrecked" car have any marks on them. But this is my first C5 experience. Am I wrong? If the car has never been wrecked should the hex bolts have any paint missing on them? If factory installed them shouldn't they still be all black. I know this seems pretty **** but a vette is big investment and I do not want to buy a wrecked vette. The car only has 1800 miles on it and it does have a clean carfax, but we all know carfax is not a guarantee if it was repaired at a private shop. I have removed hex bolts and rarely do they look like they have been removed. Unless this is the way they came from Bowling Green? If someone could go look under their hood closely at the fender bolts that would be a large help. Thanks again . James I just got that weird feeling when I saw those bolts. Maybe I am over reacting
If just the bolts on the front edge of the fender liner are shiny, then they may have been removed to install snap head screws which are used to secure a bra to the front bumper. If that's the case, then the guy was pretty nice to re-install the original screws. I forgot when I traded in my first Z, and I didn't remember until I discovered the liner bolts in my tool box the other day. It's not necessarily a sign of damage.
Awesome replies. I was concerned because they are the bolts that run along the fender up to the cowl. ANyway it just looked odd. Thanks again everyone. I think I will follow my gut instinct and pass on this one. There will be more! Thanks everyone!
