Ok, first off Im new to the vette board and vettes in general. I just bought my Z06 on Thursday. I have a couple questions for you guys...The tires are the original with 30,XXX miles on them, with the car having a cam, long tubes, exhaust, and tune it just boils them off. I need to get new tires on it and I was thinking about going with BFG Drag radials and then KDW2's up front. So the first question, what is your guys thought on these tires? Second, the clutch does that wonderful sticking to the floor deal while running through the gears and the previous owner says he has changed the fluid before and it did nothing...so my second question is, if i get a new clutch and run those tires what clutch should i go with? The current clutch is a stock one and i was told the car put 461 rwhp down. I hear alot about Textrailia, or whatever, but im not interested in spending a grand on a clutch. The stock one holds well now but the sticking to the floor is an issue and I also have to take into consideration that the tires spin...so if they grip who knows what the clutch will be like...maybe slip maybe not.
the search feature would do you a lot of good. these questions have been asked before and there are many points of view on both topics. tex seems to be the favorite around here for clutches and would do you good. As far as tires are concerned, remember that drag radials need some heat in them to hook. happy searching and welcome
I have KDW2's and they are loud tires. There ok, if you have stock wheels I would go with the Toyo T1R's. Had them on my stock Z06 wheels and loved them.
Now on the clutch, your hydrolics are gone. You need to replace those sounds like, which means you might as well do a clutch. Now comes the fun part, headers means you have to take them off to put a new clutch in. If you are going to have someone install the clutch for you, plan for about $600 in labor plus the clutch. LS7, and the Textralia are both good clutch's to look at. A Textralia is around $1,000 the the LS7 is about $400. There are other clutch's to look at also like: spec and ram. It depends on what you want to spend.
try replacing the clutch fluid, rangers method. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but give it another shot and do it over a couple days. When I first started changing mine out, it didn't make a diff until a week later. Now that its a lot cleaner, it takes a lot more beating to get the pedal to stick to the floor. I know its not a 100% answer/solution, but its a quick fix until you do save some up for the work that is involved.
How well does the LS7 clutch hold up compared to the stock Z06 clutch?

I had KDW2's on my EVO and they worked great but then again that was an AWD car.

The LS7 clutch will hold a little over 500hp with out a problem. If you drag race, dont get the clutch. It's rather beefy unit. I have KWD's on my CCW's as they were the cheapest in the 19inch size's I need. I dont like how the side wall curves in and they are kind of nosiey. I plan to change out to some PS2's.
I have the KDW2 on on all 4, and they are loud, but so are the GY supercar. They have a good price compared to others and the thread has a longer wear live. And if you live in a rainy area the tires handle
excellent in the rain.
I disagree that the LS7 clutch has had no problems. Some stock C6 Zs have had the sticking pedal problem, too. I talked to a vendor who's built dozens of hot street Corvettes, and has a C6 racing program, because I want to insure I'll get rid of this problem once and for all. They recommend, for my application,('02Z, 475RWHP) a single disc Exedy system, and that's what I ordered yesterday. I also ordered a remote bleed, new hydraulics, and the other crap I'll need. They specifically said DO NOT go with the LS7 clutch. I trust their expertise enough to plunk down the extra $$$.

What did the Exedy run you?...if you dont mind my asking

At our shop, we've had good experience with the LS7 clutch. I am currently running it on my car, which I autoX and drag race. Had I known I was going to race this much I might have looked to another lighter clutch, but so far it seems to be holding up well. I'm putting down 470 RWHP right now, but I've seen this clutch hold up for numerous dyno pulls on a mid to high 600s RWHP car.
It's a little heavy, but for the drivability and the price, this clutch is awesome.

See thats my main concern...getting a good clutch without breaking my wallet...i already have to get tires and a retune so i dont feel like dropping 2gs
Yea, my 02Z had the same clutch pedal stick in high rpm's,.....did the fluid change several pints later and the fluid became clean even after use.....helps out but once you get it dirty forget about it.....The clutch is expensive, so figure out where you want to end up at hp wise and get the one that you know you wont have to replace.....Im getting the Ram Dual disc set up...able to handle 900ftlbs.....Have a friend who has it in his in a ZO6 with a procharger amoung everything else crackin 600+ and never had the pedal stick or ANY clutch chatter! Feels great too, just a little stiffer than stock..... http://www.ramclutches.com/zen-cart/...roducts_id=380
PM me if you want to go and check it out in his car, he'll gladly show ya!
