Just lift the entire lid vertically as you tilt open the lid. It is an odd hinge. It needs to lift directly up as it tilts open or it does not clear the parking brake. Seems like a hokey design to be, but it does work if you lift as you tilt.

The hinge is double jointed - pull it towards you first and then up. Before we get into a discussion saying "stupid engineering" - it was done intentionally to allow a partial opening of the lid to remove something, without opening it all the way and having papers blow all over the place.
A lubricant on both parts of the hinge will make it work much easier.

I would guess that the engineers designed it this way so that the lid would clear the e-brake handle when open. Not sure that was the best approach. Should have used a rear hinge that would open 180 degrees...IMHO.

I was having issues with my door too. When I got to looking at it, one of the little arms on either side was missing the connecting rivet and they were just laying there loose. The main part of the hinge still works, but without these other pieces connected, the lid doesn't pivot outward to avoid rubbing on anything when opened.
Any thoughts on where to get some small rivet type connectors?
