Default Theft Deterrent Feature

I took delivery of my 2000 Vette a month and a half ago and upon reading a copy of the owners manual I learned that the radio has a "Theft Deterrent Feature". Should my battery ever go dead or be dis connected, I will no longer be able to use the radio.
I have called the dealership where I bought the car and requested the code and after a month, I still don't have the information.
When I called the service department at the dealership they said they would have to remove the radio in order to obtain the necessary information.
Is there a better way of getting the code?????

You should only have to worry about unlocking the radio if you have put a security code in the radio. Read the manual again, I think you have to enter a code that you want for the system to work. If it was never entered NO WORRY

I thought you were talking about a theft deterrent system for the car and I was going to recommend something like this.

There are actually 2 options offered, well done or extra crispy...

If a red LED near the radio flashes when your car is off, then a code is programed into the radio.

You can change the code. Just read in the owners manual on how to do it,that way if the battery does die you can unlock it with no problem. I used the year I was born for my code so I won't forget it

Unlock C5 radio
You must first activate the "Theft Deterrent Feature" before it works. Without activating it there will be no need to "unlock" the radio after it loses power, the radio will just work; the radio will not work if the "Theft Deterrent Feature" is activated and then the radio loses power. To make the radio work again one must "unlock" the radio with your Secret code ( guess what my Secret code is )

Read your manual and it will tell you how to activate this feature, or for that matter, pretty much any Chevy Owners Manual.

I like the "Theft Deterrent Feature" because not many people know about it and if a would be thief were to look inside my car they will see a flashing Red light and think there is some type of alarm.

Is there really a "black market" demand for stock, oversized, un-amped, no-nav, no-dvd radios to need a security system??

Two things :

There is "some type of alarm" :-) (leave the window open, lock it with the fob, then open the door (lights flash, horn sounds).

And my security code was not set (no flashing light) but when I changed the battery the XM attached to the Aux input (where the 12 CD Changer gets connected) stopped working.
When the Radio is locked, I think it says "lock" (or similar), mine didnt say that but the Aux wouldnt work.
A few steps into the unlock procedure (ya, I tried it because even though not locked, I had to try something :-) ) the Aux woke up and worked again.
No phone call necessary, all I had to do was press preset #3 and #4 (or whatever the directions for unlocking say.
Just included here in case anyone runs into the problem.
