Default I didn't know I had clutch problems until...

Until I decided to follow Ranger's clutch fluid replacement protocol.

http://www.rangeracceleration.com/Clutch_Care.html

My 2001 C5 shifted fine. The clutch did not stick to the floor and I read his article before and being a newbie had no idea what the term pedal 'woes' meant until I did this change. I was like "I don't have them"

I am totally stock...I do not race on tracks like Ranger and did this more out of a preventative maintenance.

I was shocked how 12oz of pure black fluid came out in about 6 fill and drain w/ 20 hard pumps per fill.

Once it was clear I took it out for a drive.

wow!!! The clutch felt so "right" and on some high speed acceleration the shifting smoothness was amazing.

I TOTALLY RECOMMEND YOU DO THIS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE Even if you are stock. It took me 30minutes and was well worth it.

For the record *I* purchased Dot 3 fluid penzoil synthetic.

The difference between that and Dot 4 is the temperature rating.

Since I dont track the car I'm ok with stock Dot 3 like I mentioned.

I'd think you would want Dot 4 if your tracking it.

Be sure to read bottle for compatibility with Dot 3 and brake/clutch systems

Rangers thread goes into excellent detail.

I'll post pics tommorow of the old fluid and my unique "syringe"

Glad it worked out for you, Angrybob.

My approach to clutch fluid preventative maintenance was borne out of necessity on my 01 Z06.

Suffered pedal woes; Chevy fix of swapping all the clutch and hydraulic parts worked for only a short time before pedal woes returned. Experimentation led to persistence in keeping the clutch fluid clean and fresh (that means clear of any murkiness), putting the boiling point near the number on the can. For me, problem solved. Is working for hundreds of other owners too.

Here is a picture of the dirty fluid and my patented removal tool.

As you can see the fluid is just aweful. The Bottle was clean when i started.

If your looking for a portable unit then Ranger's portable zip lock system is the way to go.

I was looking for the perfect home syringe and came across my wife's turkey flavor injector!!

Isn't she a beauty??

I'm safe until Turkey day anyway from any wrath!!

Remember to use plenty of shop towels and...

Next up is the Royal Purple MN6 Change and Differential Fluid change.

Another satisfied Ranger technique user, I am up to ~19 changes and what a difference, I also just got back in from draining the manual transmisison and refilling with Mobil 1 SYN ATF and wow the shifter fill so much better.

Angrybob do not be surprised if within a day or two driving the fluid gets a little murky again mine was as dark as the fluid you got out also.

Great job for posting your findings Ranger.

So easy, a caveman could do it. There is no reason to have dirty cluch fluid. This is probably one of the most important things I've learned about taking care of my vette.

Thanks Ranger!

Default 6-Speed Clutch Fluid Reminder

This one been asleep for a while but it's a good reminder for 6-speed owners.

I'm doing mine about every four months and it stays fairly clean during that period of normal type driving.

I use GM Clutch Fluid 12345347. Oh and I also have one of those Mighty Vacs which makes removing the fluid real easy and safe.

Just a reminder is it time for you to change yours?

I've used both these tips(RP and clean clutch fluid) on my 02 6 spd in the past month. Both worked great. Easy to do and cheap as well. One more reason I love this forum.
