Will this devalue my vehicle when I sell it??
If you ever trade the car or sell it to a dealer than yes, the retail value will show from it. Otherwise with a private seller, I dont think the value will be hurt as you have a new motor and that was the only thing damaged.
Wow...hydrolocked in rain? I'm curious to know what happened?
I've seen countless jeeps get hydrolocked in mudholes and revived them back to normal.
As for value - it all depends. If you're trading it in - YES. The dealership is gonna know there's a new engine in there and knock the value down. Private sale? Well...... you can look at it a couple different ways. KBB & NADA values don't necessarily look at it that way -other than 'good/fair/excellent' mechanical condtion. If a potential buyer doesn't do their homework - they'll never know.
The question is - are you going to disclose that information to the buyer? Or are you going to hide it from them? How comfortable are you with having *said engine swap* come back to haunt you?
If I remeber right, a few months back he was driving off of a on ramp and it was flooded from rain. he didnt know it was deep and the intake sucked in all the water.
Personally I put little credibility in a carfax reports. This report is only as complete as the information submitted. There are no laws requiring its use and I'm willing to bet that much less than half of the incidents go unreported.
I bought a new truck in 1999. In the winter of 2003 an SUV lost control in a snowstorm and ended up broadside in my lane, I t-boned him at a slight angle intentionally to avoid a direct head-on collision.
To make a long story short, it cost almost $10,000 to fix and there was no frame damage at all. The truck was fixed at a local shop that's been in the business for over 50 years and they did a tremendous job. I'm still driving this truck today and it looks brand new.
My point? To this day, this and one other incident has not made it to the carfax reporting system.
