I have been to two NAPA stores, Lowe's, Home Depot, and Ace Hardware and can't find a "Copper washer that is 1/8" thick and has a 3/4" inner diameter" ANYWHERE.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Also is it absolutely necessary for it to be Copper?

Go to autozone or a pepboys. Look in the oil pan bolt area for a 20mm size plug. Buy a couple of them and you'll be good to go.
you put a washer in the detent assembly on the transmission. it relieves pressure on the detent assembly, and decreases effort on shifting and you lose some of the notchy feeling. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I assume this is for M6 tranny? I could use some shifting improvement. Anyone have a link with some instructions?

yes for an M6.
Dont have a link but I could give you a brief instruction:
on the passenger side of the transmission, towards the top there is a bolt. you wont be able to see it but you can feel it, dont remember the size but I remember it being fairly large. take that bolt out, install the washer on the bolt and put the bolt back in. Done!

Guys, Go to Napa and ask for (20mm copper drain plug gasket) #704-1357 Napa Balkamp. I used 3 of them. I forget the total thickness. I bought a box of 10 and gave them out to a couple of Vette buds. I think the 3 measured .150" You should shoot for at least .125" (1/8")

So, this bolt somehow gets in the way and removing it and adding a washer improves shifting? If the bolt and washer are on the outside of the tranny, why does the washer have to be copper?

seems kind of weird but it works. The bolt should be copper for sealing capabilities, but the bolt is so high up I really dont think that copper is necessary.

Cool. I'll try it. Can you get to the bolt from inside the car by removing the console or do you need to get to it from down under?

Under the car. Takes 10 minutes and is worth the effort AND the $1.50. When you are done the shifter is very smooth (not ratchety) as the spring loaded ball in this bolt (use a 15/16" socket) doesn't come in contact with a detent inside the trans. Now the stock shifter feels like a Hurst on an M22.
