My HUD came on today and the switch was off. It was unreadable , looked like everything was on at the same time! buncha gobaldy goop!
I tried turning it off and on and i could see the read out a little brighter than the junk and the read out went off and on but the but the junk would not go off
i turned right and it went off..... then it worked fine ....loose wire . bad ground or bad HUD??

IMHO..you are seeing sun reflection off the hud unit. I know you probably are saying... no way... but check it out when it happens again. Pretty common observation.

It's just like Threed said - if you get in the sun just right, the hud board will reflect sunlight and the whole display will appear to light up, but it is not the nice green-blue, but rather a copper-gold looking reflection.
IMHO..you are seeing sun reflection off the hud unit. I know you probably are saying... no way... but check it out when it happens again. Pretty common observation.
This has happened to me a few times as well. Kinda strange the first time it happened but it was fairly obvious it was just glare / reflection.
yeah daytime it prob was the sun thanks guys but...........
it happened again at night and you can see the screen refresh from left to right real slow, like a slow wave. but not readable but at night if you turn it on then off it goes away
