For those of you who may have seen the movie "Operation Petticoat" with Cary Grant and Tony Curtis, she was the pink submarine.

I spent July 4, 1968 at Con Thien and it was the best 4th I've ever had. We set off pop-ups and a variety of other explosives , not to mention the Dusters firing into the air. The C/O wasn't very happy, but it's a day I'll never forget.

US Army - 1968-1970. Served in the 9th Infantry Division (Mobile Riverine Force) Mekong Delta. Hat's off to all my fellow vets, but particularly the Navy guys who shuttled us up and down those narrow rivers. You're the BEST!

Today I was thinking that the best July 4th I ever had was in Cu Chi, Vietnam in 1970. We just got back from the Cambodian Campaign and partied like hell. We shot flares, popped smoke and were very happy to be in basecamp – some of us got drunk.

Godspeed to all Veterans and our soldiers serving across the world.

Have a great Independence Day.

Dan Maw,

3rd Sqadron 4th Cav, 25th Infantry Division, VN
