Hello Fellow Vetteheads,
I'am gathering info on Z06's with in the future purchasing one. The hartop, when it is taken off is there a rag top tucked away behind to bring up for bad weather? Where is the hardtop stored? Second what is an average insurance coverage on a Z.
As stated only a fixed roof comes on the Z. Now I have seen conversion kits but I am sure they are not cheap and also you negate the reason for it being a fixed roof.
Another question, if I went with the standard 01 when the hartop comes off, does it have a rag back up tucked away? And I assume you set it in the garage and is not storable???

C5 convertibles come with a cloth top only. There's aftermarket hard tops available, and how you remove/store it is up to the user.

Thank You All in Advance
The hard top is bolted onto the car. It is possible to unbolt and remove it with, but it's a pain in the *** to do. It's possible to make it a vert, but you would be better off getting a vert if that is what you want.

Now you're just confusing him.
FRC/Z06 = roof not removable (FRC = fixed roof coupe)
Coupe = removable roof panel, rear window is a hatch
Convertible = cloth folding top
I have seen 1 Z06 that has a re-moveable top (for sale here in colorado springs), it was a $6k upgrade, unlike the other removable tops I am not sure if it would store in the car (definatly couldn't have a FRC/Z06 partition installed). And I am not sure if they make it exact to factory specs where other removalbe tops could interchange with it.
Caravaggio in Ontario, Canada can make Z06's into targa roofs like the coupes or make them into convertibles. Ain't cheap though, $6k for the targa and $12k for the 'vert. Also, at Bowling Green Birthday Bash a few years ago, there was a guy who makes Z06 roofs into retractible hardtops. The trunk opens backwards and the roof folds up into the trunk, all in less than 20 seconds. It was truly amazing and very impressive workmanship. That conversion cost $11k. Lastly, several years ago one of the Vette mags featured a Z06 modified in such a way that the entire roof tilted back and came off and then under the remaining tonneau panel the convertible top was stored and could be put up like stock. If I had the extra bucks to do one of these tops, I'd have a lot more horsepower instead.
