Default Leaky Tire Pressure Sensor...

The sensor is leaking air. Not by the cap, but where the shaft meets the base of the metal on the rim itself. Do I need a new sensor or can it be fixed? Thanks.

You just need an o-ring. I think it is a #14 o-ring that you can get from any hardware store for about 15 cents.

Not wanting to hijack, but...the early sensors have an o-ring IN the sensor. Does another ring go between the sensor and the wheel?

I'd like to know as well. I think I need to order a sensor.

I just checked again and the leak is where the nut meets the stem. This is on a 1998. Do I need an O-ring or a new sensor?

Thanks.

I have fill my 04 tires every 2 weeks or so. One time I even heard air hissing out of the right rear valve stem seat. I tightened it up and it was ok, but i still have to check all four tires every two weeks or so. My 05 never looses air. I can check it months after filling and all four still have 30psi.

Cool. Do I have to dismount everything? If not, does the O-ring go on the stem or the back of the nut? Thanks again....

My 98 has the o-rings on the valve stem too. Just have your tire store break one bead of the tire off of the rim, remove the sensor, and put a new o-ring on the valve stem and re-assemble. If they don't take the tire completely off, then there should be no need to re-balance the wheel.

Thank you. Should save me $100.

Probably just a bad O-ring. Get a new one and have it installed.

I assume you have checked to make sure the nut doesn't need snugged up? Some times seals take a "set" and lose the compression a bit and snugging up the retainer stops the leak. Good luck

Yea, I think you are right, #9 sounds right. I tried to find that here on the forum but I was not able to find it. But thanks for jumping in.

Thanks. I did try that and made it worse. Does anyone know where to get a #9 O-ring? I cannot find any.

Any hardware store will carry rubber O-rings.
