Default Engine light

I need a little help. The check engine light has come on. It is the idiot light that has a engine outlined in yellow. The car still runs great so I don't know what to do about it. I hate to take it to the shop and spend $60 to turn the light off but maybe no other choice unless someone out there has had the same problem and knows how to resolve it.
Thanks!

If you can get your trouble codes and post them I'm sure someone can tell you what's going on.

This thread will tell you how to read the trouble codes. List them once you get a reading.

read the link posted above! You can turn the light off yourself, and read the codes.

Check the DIC codes.

Mine came on the other day and all it ended up being was the gas cap being loose.

Good luck

Check the DIC codes. The link you were given has the procedure for retrieving them and clearing them. It's very easy. I get the check engine light from time to time when I'm tracking the car, and it's always something simple, like one of the sensors kicking off a code (guess they don't like too much WOT). Reset the codes and the check engine light will go away. One of the threads has a listing of virtually all of the codes. I printed it out and keep it in the glove box for reference. Do a forum search and you'll find them.

Thanks for the information! I printed out the instructions and went at it! I found that the problem was the driver door window and door lock electronics. For some reason there has been loss of connection? I have found that this door has been fixed, yes my car was wrecked before I bought it and I checked all sources but obvioulsy nothing had been reported. It looks like just the door was hit.
This is a great forum with plenty of help available!

I don't think a trouble code associated with the door electronics would set a "check engine" light. Usually, some kind of emissions related or engine performance issue will set the "check engine" light.

Only an emissions related problem will set the CEL. You have another problem somewhere.

redroket - did you write down all the trouble codes when you checked them?
