Hey Guys! I just picked up a 2001 Z06 after scrimping and saving for a few years. I started out by buying a few items for it. Unfortunatley, a locking gas cap was one of the things I bought. After I put it on , I noticed some preload on the gas door against the locking cap, but didn't think anything of it....until I had to fill up and the door wouldn't pop open. I tried having a friend hold the gas door button down while I wiggled the door to get it to open but no luck. I couldn't find any emergency leash in the interior of the car. Can I unscrew the quarter panel to get to it? Any tips would be appreciated, TIA.
While someone pushes the open button, gently and quickly push (or bump) in on the gas door. Don't hold it in. What you are trying to do is take some tension off the release latch when the button is pushed. Hope this works for you.
There is an emergency release cable also, behind the driver's seat, under the carpet, by the sidewall.
But again, the whole idea is to take the tension off the gas door latch so it will release.
