Default Header install complete w/ pics

Last weekend, I was able to finally get my headers installed. I went with B&B Tri-Flow shorty headers that I was able to pick up for $500 used for less than 200 miles. I know the consensus here is that shorty headers are a waste, but I live in California and don't want to drive an illegal car.

I had the headers coated with Jet-Hot Sterling ($195) so they should never tarnish. Here is a comparison of the stock and B&B headers

I thought the B&B's were well made and seemed about half the weight of the stock headers.

Here is a pic with coil packs removed and the passenger header out.

Here is the final install pics.

Overall, I can't say I notice any SOTP improvement. The sound is a bit deeper and improved in my opinion. I have Corsa Tourings so it is not too agressive. At WOT, it is louder and sounds pretty sweet.

I am happy with them, but they are a bit pricey for what they offer. They do look better than stock though. As far as the 3 hour install time B&B quotes. Ya right; maybe after your 3rd or 4th time doing it. It took me a pretty solid 8 hours of work, but it was fun. Isn't that what it is all about?

Cheers,
Brian

Excellent work and kudos to you for doing it yourself. Nothing feels better than installing a mod yourself. You gain knowledge about your C5, satisfaction for doing yourself and sav a boatload of scratch. I wouldn't worry about meeting their optomistic install times - I always take longer than the prescribed times because I'm either combining it with other tasks or taking my time to clean, inspect other systems while I'm there, taking pictures and having tostop for interruptions, etc.

Enjoy and congrats on a job well done.

Great job!!!

Don't beleive the BS about the shorty headers, they will make power and tourque. I just reccetnly swithched to LT (had pace setters) but only cause I have upgraded heads and cam. On a stock motor shorty headers are a great mod for the money and ease of installation.

If I were ever to install headers, the short version are probably what I'd go with for pretty much the same reasons as you. It's to bad the headers aren't more visible in the confines of the C5/Z06 engine bay once installed.
I've never seen the oem cast manifolds w/o the shielding...I think they'd look good with a nice JET HOT or HPC finish...

Congrats! It's cool that you tackled the install yourself. How tight was the fit at times?

I just purchased a set of shorty headers. Where did you get them coated at?

Thinking of having mine coated before install.
