There is a drag strip about a half hour away from my house , and i really want to bring the vette up there and see what it can do. I drag race my other car , and love it. I know once i bring the vette up there i will make it a habbit. say i want to bring it to the track every other weekend and make about 4-5 passes , how bad is it really for my car ? should i not even consider doing it ? thanks in advance
I just did that on the 29th of June. I read "RANGER"s site tips and had a great time. Just don't get too carried away and you'll be fine. The first run comes and goes so fast you'll just want to do it again. I need to post my numbers here. Have fun!
A stock clutch will give 150-175 launches at the drag strip before it needs replacement. That assumes drag radials and launch rpm of 3600-4200 (C5). And use of a fast clutch release with minimal slip.
If you launch instead on stock tires, the clutch should give about 50% more passes.
Also, periodically change the fluid in the tranny and differential.
Finally, get good at shifting gears. That's the best way to avoid tranny damage. Here is my write-up on How to Improve Your Shifting. These drills are crucial to shift accuracy and reliability.

Remember- How many times when you drive it just for fun and slam the gas and wind it out!
Wil it be any different at the track! That's the way I look at it! If you floor it on the street a few times each time you drive it should hold up well!
Actually im driving an auto , i forgot to state that. i do live near boonville , however i do not go up there , in fact i was not even aware they still had a strip. i am going to cicero ny (syracuse)
