Default cam Vs buying a ZO6

I've been on the fence about putting a cam in my 02 coupe I've got 67,000 miles on the motor I can spend the money to get 50 hp or should I by a low mileage ZO6 that allready has 400hp but can you hear the difference at idle between the to.I'm looking for the increase in hp but I do want to hear that baby cam a little.Or should I go with a turbo too many decisions .I need some advice on this guys .I guess I need to sit down and do some research on what's best any sugg or comments would be great. Thanks Doug

By the Z add some SLP 1.85 rocker arms and upgrade your springs and BAM you go a nice upgrade in power and a great sound.

if you do a cam why not heads too?? if you do your probably in the neighborhood of somewhere around 5K, if you do the turbos, more like 11k...do you have Z lined up? If so if its a good deal I might go that route, if down the road you decide to sell the vette you'll never get out what you put into it....my two cents

personally, I would modify the vette

Let me put my flame suit on for all the Z owners,

21K for the 98 vert
2K for heads/cam
500 Ls7 clutch

my labor - free

Stock c5 Z's see my tail lights all the time

With that said, let me throw some major respect to the Z. Very cool car, people always pass my car by to look at them, and I would do the same also. Mine is just a plain old '98 black vert. But, I like the stealthness of my car, catches people by surprise.

By all means, if you like the Z go for it, it is a bad azz car, no doubt. As I have stated in previous posts, I think it should be a love affair for the Vette, be passionate about it. If the Z does that for you then grab one. If your current C5 moves you as much or more, then mod way.

Its not just about power IMO for the Z, but the whole package and the prestige, it sets you apart as a Corvette owner as it should.

Thats my 2 cents

Good Luck in whatever you decide to do.

No flame suit necessary - it is what it is. A heads/cam/intake LS1 should walk a stock Z.

There's more to a Z than just more hp, they handle better to and lets face it a Z is Z. If your looking to be just a fast, then mod the one you have. A cam, LT's and good tune will get you there w/o having to swap the heads IMO.

Have to agree here. And personally, you should keep your car. I used to want a Z06 when the only thing I knew about them was that they were fast, but after learning more, the Coupe was the choice for me. Its a nice compromise between a vert and the Z, and easily modded. Nothing stopping you from changing the suspension to stay with the Z in everyway, add a cage for more rigidity if desired. Full bolt ons and cam only, you will be able to handle a Z no problem. Or throw on some worked L92 heads w/the intake and really give them trouble!

People always ask why I passed on a Z. After explaining to them what the Z lacks that the coupe has, they understood.

Now, if they made the Z with a targa top & sport seats, i'd be all for it. I just don't go for hard top cars.

That's how I feel, I like taking the top down on nice days or cool evenings. As far as increasing power and handling, it can all be done with the only limiting factor being the check book. If you like what you have, mod it out...........

IMO a clean car as a start point is the big deal.

Stock Zs are a handle full, and not just HP. The M12 is like an M6 with 390s and 1-3 a z will pull very hard. I know my slow 01 with CAI was all a LS1 with LTs, gears, CAI, cam... the weight delta does add up to .2 as well.

BLUFF keep yuo car and enjoy it and let the mod bug roll, or, find a nice clean Z and drive it (then mod it ).
