Default MSRP

Invoice for the 2001 Z06 is $41,873. MSRP is $47,855. Considering dealers holdback is 3% of MSRP, the dealer is making $5,982 plus $1,435 for dealer holdback, totaling $7,417. Realistically, the car should be bought for $43,000 which is $4,855 under MSRP, but still $1,127 over invoice, now add the $1,435 in holdback, and the dealer is still making $2,562. Seems like a fair profit for the dealer to me. Salesman will get about $250 in commission, which is the average a car salesman makes on each sale. If you pay $43,000 you still have to add destination charges of $645, and tax % for your state. So, since TMV (true market value) is $48,155 and dealers are selling even above that, they are making some whopping profit on the Z06. If a dealer sells the Z06 for $55,000, he is making $13,127, plus holdback of 3% which is $1,435. Add that together and you have a fantastic profit of $14,562. YOU, could actually buy a second car for that! Just something to think about. When purchasing a new car. A great resource is "Edmonds.com" and "Beat The Car Salesman" websites. Happy reading!......Father Larry

EXACTLY!!! Great synopsis.

Which is why I refuse to pay "market adjustment" or even sticker for the car. In an economy where these things are flying off the showroom floor (no pun intended), I could see paying a premium.

Right now, you'd think a dealer would be happy to make $4-5k and move the car.

The sale of my S351 is in the works, and I'll be looking to buy something else (Z06 or GTS) shortly. Paying sticker is not an option if the dealer wants my business.

We get a GM discount. My buddy ordered a 2002 and is getting it for $41,000. Sticker said $51,000. I did not believe him until he showed me the paperwork.

I always pay no more than $500 over invoice for my "daily driver' cars, but the Z06 is subject to supply and demand.

The FRC was a sales flop when it first came out, but it's amazing what the Z06 package has done for it. A star is born......:yesnod:

I love the FRC styling and I'm glad GM turned it into a true, hardcore, take-no-prisoners 'Vette when they made all FRC's into Z06s. Based on '99-'00 sales, it was fast headed into obscurity, but GM really pulled off a brilliant recovery. My hat is off to them for their accomplishment. :yesnod:

The proof is in the pudding- my '02 Z06 made me wantonly ignore my "no more than $500 over invoice" rule. Dropping all the cash hurt, but within 5 minutes of driving off the lot, I forgot all about the money. I'm a victim of Z fever!

Many of your post have been helpful in my decision to acquire a Z. I'm a Realtor in No. Va. and as I tell all my cohorts who think I am nuts. Heh, you got to get to work some how!

I got my 01 Z06 with a GMS purchase. Out the door price was $41495 which included the car's options (mirrors, mats and memory) and the shipping costs.

How does GM work that with the dealerships? Do they make 0$$ on those deals or what?
