As far as sizes go - these widths are the stock widths only in an one inch larger diameter wheel. Having said that - about largest size you should go for the front is a 255-40x18 and for the back a 285-35x19. The relation between the front and back will maintain the stagger and the overall diameter of the tires is is close enough to the OEM size that you should be fine.

As far as lowering - you don't HAVE to lower the car unless you want to. Lowering is mostly for cosmetic appeal - the cars look better in some people's opinion, and those same folks state the the car will handle a little better. I have my car lowered as far as it will go on the factory bolts and no bushings cut. If you do decide to lower the car - get an alignment when you're finished - which is a good idea anyway with new tires.

Go to Tire Rack's web site, look up your favorite tire and you will see a spec page. You will then be able to see the recommended wheel size for any profile. Great info there.

This is a great tire size calculator. This will show you how tires compare with OEM speedo error etc.

http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.asp

Try to use the same profile tire for both front and back (30, 35, 40). also I would not mix and match tire brands.

Now I am confused? My stock tires are 245/45 17 and 275/40 18. They are not the same profile. Can anyone who has out 18 x 8.5 and 19 x 9.5 chime in? I figure there cant be many combinations here as far as size. I called 2 tire dealers and was told different sizes to put on my car
