When I got my vert it had 5% tint on the back and side windows. I absolutely hated it. Driving at night you couldn't use your side view mirrors. I changed the sides out to 25% and it's much better. Still dark enough. I like the 5% on the back though. I got pulled over for no front tag that the trooper actually measured my tint and told me if it was 5% darker he would have ticketed me. As it was he gave me a BS ticket for no front tag.
I just got a call from my father, who is at a window tinting business that was recommended by the regional members of this forum. My sister wants the side windows tinted on her Camaro, which is illegal in California. She wanted to get them as dark as possible, which most people/places would call “limo” or “5%” tint. The place told my dad that if you get in an accident with tinted side windows, especially if they are really dark, that your insurance company can void your claim, regardless of fault. This seems ridiculous, and I’ve never heard of it. The place is trying to convince my dad to go with a “dark smoke” or something lighter, but who wants to pay for something they don’t really want. Anyone with experience with this debate please chime in.
The place is California Auto Tint in Campbell, CA by San Tomas and Winchester.
If the tint is illegal in your state, why would you be surprised at this???
If I had an accident with your car with the blacked out side windows, I'd be all over that as a reason.. 5% tint on sides is bad stuff. Try it at night and see for yourself...
The LEO's just love seeing it too
