Default 2002 z06 Questions

Ok...I got the car...now what?

I know I want the cold air and vortex rammer...but are the Corsa's/Borla's going to improve the speed or just the sound? And are they worth it? Headers? If these things aren't going to bring speed, I'm happy with the current throaty sound (I had Corsa Indy's on my C5 conv and loved them too!).

I know there are alot of differences between the 01 and 02 Z06's, so I dont want to add something that's going to end up hurting my quarter and top end speed.

I'm thinking of getting VPR KLR as my tags, and know I'll have to back it up if I do...so any ideas?

Thanks to everyone here :)

Jeff

Jeff, steer clear of the intake mods......there are issue's.........
They ( some) are actually MAKING less H>P>...........the '02's system is breathing much more freely than the '01's.
Check with Jim @ Halltech,........................tell him your story. ;)

Viper....I gotta admit I love the straight line speed you guys have. I've heard they aren't real comfy as daily drivers, but they look mean and sharp. I just wanna be faster :)

Z06LS6,

Adding the bottom breather doesn't help any? I was under the impression that having that alone would add some horses. How about the vortex rammer? Again, I was under the impression that the "ribbed" one that's currently there made the air intake less "smooth", or did someone sell me a 3 legged horse on that one?

Cmon Corsa and Borla folks...help me out here please :)

Thanks again!

Jeff

Basically ya need cold air and lots of it. Ya already got the cold via the front screens to your stock intake....done. As far a more air, well the `02 does have a more open intake cover when compared to the `01, so it gets plenty.
Stay pat! :chevy

Jeff, I can't say they won't, can't help.....it's obvious that they ( some) will......
Here is the crux of the matter as I understand it.....
The '02's, cam, valves, intake, intake box, are all different than the '01's.......also, the pups are gone, and a special cat is on them......thus, they BREATHE a LOT easier than the '01's......
These mods, are WHERE the extra 20 ponies came from.
Now, with all that said.......herein lies the POTENTIAL problem.........
When the NEW HIGH FLOW intakes are added, it screws up the a/f mixture, and the puter', cannot do a relearn to make the adjustments for it.
(As the '01's do, and can).
So, the engines (internal components) run HOTTER, due to an excessively LEAN mixture......
This causes pinging, and some detonation issue's........as yet to be addressed.....
IF you took the intake to a Tech Shop / Vette Shop.......they could probably RE program your computer, and pick up the extra ponies, and NOT have these side issue's to contend with.
Jim, at Halltech, has said, HE has not seen this problem on the '02 they purchased for the testing...............
I have read where several others HAVE had this problem........
Bottom line, unless it's on a Dyno........you WILL not know whether you are in PLUS teritory, or Negative.........
So, I suggest a before, and after Dyno check, and have the auto reprogrammed IF needs be............. THIS is the ONLY way you will know for sure........whew.............
