I can't get the MAF connection unhooked. Took out the grey key. Instructions say to squeeze side of connector and gently disconnect. I can't find anything to squeeze and when I pull, I can't get the plug out. Is there another locking mechanism and do I just need to apply a little more muscle? I don't want to break anything.
I don't remember ever unhooking the MAF connector. I just removed the air ducting from in front of the MAF and changed to the newly supplied air ducting. I am headed to a meeting at my church here and will return in about 2 hours here Pacific Time. I can call you with my free long distance if you need some actual moral support! PM me if you'd want me to phone chat with you? I just cleaned my Blackwing last week and they sometimes can be a PITA! "Pain in the A$$" Good Luck with your MOD and I still love your sister in your AVATAR! SWEEET!
Thanks for the reply. I have to unhook the electrical connection in order to install the blackwing. Hopefully, I'll get some help here. Thanks for the offer for the call. If I am still doing this in 2 hours (and haven't shot myself yet), I may have to talk with you.
It's the broad top side you push in on to pull it out. Mrs' Patches did her's recently and I have a pictire of her pulling the connector out with her thumb over the portion where the grey key normally resides.
This sucks. How do you remove the clamp around the air hose? The instructions say to slide a screwdriver between the teeth and rotate until clamp oepns. I think if I do this, I will break the clamp.
Look at the plastic "Herbie" clamp. It has teeth that ratchet together. You can slip a small flat blade screw driver into the small opening just behind the teeth or use your fingers and push them sideways, releasing the teeth (if the clamp is not to tight).
I'm wondering why you're bothering to remove the clip since you'll reuse the 90 degree elbow with the hose and "Herbie" clip, installing it into the BLACKWING. Just pull the elbow/hose/clip from the oem air cleaner assembly from the rubber grommet and reinstall into the BLACKWING when it's in place.

Mrs. Patches says to do as the instructions say. Don't worry - the clamps are tough plastic and will pop open.
Awesome picture.........she is just like the girl I have recently fallen in love with! My new girlfriend loves my C-5 A4 and actually wants "any" car with a manual transmission, she just wants to shift.........I am so lucky......We share the same dream car too....anything Aston Martin....of course that is AFTER the Corvette.....
OK..so Mr.s Patches is showing me up! Thanks for everything. One last question. I can't seem to get the air hose in a relaxed position. It wants to go directly into the blackwing but you have to use the stock elbow. Thanks again

It isn't a perfect fit for me either, kinda crooked still but mostly works.....
Thanks. Yah..mine is'nt relaxed at all. It kinda has the elbow pulled up a little on one side. I am wondering if folks cut the hose to take that big bend out. Guess I will loiter around a little longer to see if I get any more tips before making the final connection and going thru the idle learning phase.
Thanks to everyone. Once I got past the disconnects, the rest went pretty smooth. I know some folks have fitment problems. Everything slid back in with perfect alignment.
Thanks for the pictoral intructions! Ok...how did Mrs. Patches get the hose in a relax position when installing into the blackwing. (I figure since she has soon me up the whole way, why not more more time!)

Mrs. Patches has one thing that you don't Eddie (mind out of the gutter here boys ). She has the expert tutelage of Patches if she needs help right there. But obviously this is a woman willing to roll up her sleeves and jump right in....that makes her A-OK in my book!

Randy,
You are correct. I feel much better now! I should have all of my manhood back shortly.
For those helping me, I'm done! I let it run for 5 minutes in neutral (someone told me to do this so the idle relearns.). Going out for a drive and praying that I don't start throwing codes. Still idling a little rough but not worried. Just need to let the car adjust to more air...
PS: HEADERS! DID SOMEONE SAY HEADERS..........I guess that may be next.

She says her's is a bit "loaded" but works fine - she didn't want to cut the hose in case she ever decides to go back to stock.
That hose goes to the AIR pump and air only passes through it for the first couple of minutes after the car is started cold. All other times it's passive. As long as there are no leaks or gaps big enough for large dust particles to get through, you're fine.
I found that replacing the supplied flat rubber grommet with a slightly angled (ala LT1/LT4 sbc) valve cover grommet, then the air hose is routed at a better angle. It won't pull out on its own. If you want to be even more secure, you can install an ADEL clamp into the plastic radiator shroud to hold the hose in place. You can just see mine in place in this image...I have removed my BLACKWING/ice box cover setup since I got intermittent codes. I hope you don't have the same issue.
You can also go to your favorite hardware store in the evaporative cooling department and find a straight barbed connector with the same OD as the 90 degree elbow. They'll have them in white plastic most likely.
