Last week I posted a thread outlining my problem with the wheel locks on my new to me 02 Z06. I finally resolved the problem yesterday. The original owners swear that there was no lock socket or tire inflator with the car when they purchased it new. i called the dealer that sold them the car "it has since changedowners" and thay could not help. their solution to the problem was to cut and air wrench the locks off. Not a good solution in my estimation.
I called another dealer yesterday and they told me to come on down and they would see what they could do. They had boxes of wheel keys and the third key tried fit. Fifteen minutes later I had four new locks and a key at a cost of $26.55. They even put them on!
The dealer Walker Chevrolet in Franklin Tn told me that the factory keeps track of the codes tied to the cars serial number but we could not go that route because the factory is shut down until August. Apparently this happens a lot, "lost wheel key". the dealer said in most cases they had a key that would work. There is a card that you send in to McGard that registers your key number should you ever lose it.

Really? My experience with McGard is that each dealer has a set of 25 or so "master" keys. I've seen them at a Toyota dealership and they just try them all until one fits. I didn't think they were that unique. Maybe they are unique to each make of auto (e.g. GM, Toyota, etc...) but doubt they are unique to each set of locks. Wheel locks are a PITA IMO.
Yes, they work as a visual deterent especially when parked next to another identical car that doesn't have 'em...
